Question Active Sync Problems

I know there's a lot of posts about, but I've done a search and looked through the first two pages of what it gave me. I just reformatted my computer and installed Windows 98. My problem is that Active Sync will not detect my Ax. I've tried reinstalling version 3.5 and 3.7 several times. I've soft reset my Ax every time I reinstalled and I just now deleted everything on my SD card and backed up to it and did a hard reset. I've tried plugging the cradle in every port on my computer. I can't think of anything else to try.
Please help me!

You have to install the Axim drivers first. You do still have your Axim CD??? If not, they are on the Dell site.

Uninstalled ActiveSync, installed the drivers, reinstalled ActiveSync, and it still doesn't work.

Hmmm...maybe you could try installing it on a friends computer to see if its a hardware problem with the Ax or cradle or something ?

I've been able to sync it before on this computer running Windows XP. I know that the usb port, cradle, and Ax work fine.

Did you let the XP add the Internet Connection Firewall? This can interfer with ActiveSync (as well as any other firewalls you've added, especiall Zone Alarm which has to be complete removed, not just inactivated).

I could find the drivers on the cd or Dell's website. I got them from a third party site here http://www.davespda.com/resources/delldrivers.htm

They are in the root directory on the CD - three files named wceusbsh.* Also available from Dell's download site.

If you run the *.cat one it should activate them.

I'm sorry to say that even after uninstalling Zone Alarm and doing clean installs for 3.5 and 3.7 it still does not detect my Axim.

If this is the first time you've installed, they will be added when you install ActiveSync as long as you do the installation before connecting the Axim. If you mistakenly attached it before installing, right click on the *.inf file and select install. It should overwrite the version XP installs by default.
