Worried Sensitivity:Private help, please

Can anybody help out a new Axim user? Noticed that a new event in my calendar can have a "sensitivity" setting of "private" . . . what does that do?

The private setting just stops the Task/Appointment, whatever, from synching with Outlook on the PC via Activesync. That is, it will only appear on the Axim, not on the computer.

Still not private

Thanks for the words of wisdom, but I tried it and the calendar item is still syncing with my outlook. Do I have to adjust a setting in outlook or in the activesync?

No, the private calendar function is used in Outlook. When you give someone access to your Calendar they can see appt details except for Private ones.

If you don't want them to sync with Outlook, ie keep them only on the Axim, assign a catergory to them and tell Activesync to not sync that catergory.

I tried that, and what Active Sync ended up doing was deleting off my Dell the items in that (private) category. I called Dell to check with them (because it was driving me crazy), and was told the ActiveSync filter only works to save room on your dell by not syncing everything, not visa versa.
Help! I'm so confused! Here is my goal:
I sync my dell at work with my work PC and at home with my Mac. The work PC uses Outlook, and I'd like to be able to stop stuff on my calendar, like my pop's birthday, from showing up on my at-work outlook . . . so I can share my calendar with my staff. Can you help?

If it's Private on the desktop Outlook, your staff won't see it when they look at your calendar through the network, but you will see it when you open Outlook. So, set it to Private on the desktop when it arrives from the Axim. I think you can set it private on the Mac, but I don't have a Mac so I can't tell you. I know on my system, I have a work laptop and a home PC and I can have Private appointments on my home PC that sync to the Ax and to the laptop, but which my staff cannot see. (I can, they can't.)

That's simple, mark them private and your staff should not see them. Create one and go check.

For the record, I don't share my calendar but people can still see if my calendar is busy through the free/busy connector. So no-one can se any of my indivdual items, just that there IS a calendary entry. That way whether it's personal or private they don't know what it is. But they can still see that it's busy so know not to book conflicting meetings.

AFAIK here's how it works.
Go to Activesync, Tools, Options, Calendar, Settings and enable Synchronize catergories only in the following catergories. Select all catergories except for Private (if it doesn't appear you don't have anything in that catergory. This is a custom catergory, you may need to create it.

Any items you create on the Axim put in a catergory called Private. They should not sync.

I'm going to give this a shot now so I'll let you know how it goes.

ok, I WAS going to try it but since it would have to resync all 780 apps I have in my calendar and I'm doing it via IrDA you'll have to try it for yourself if you need to :) My cradle is at work.

Don't Do That!

Don't go syncing all that! And I appreciate the suggestion . . . .yeah, that sounds very logical. As a matter of fact, that's exactly how I thought it would work. But somewhere in the mix either I'm donig something wrong or logic isn't what I thought it was. When the PC syncs with my Dell, it is replacing what's in my Outlook for what's on my Dell and the private category I tell it not to sync disappears from my Dell.
Any suggestions? Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere? :hide:

Maybe my interpretation of how it is supposed to work is incorrect. So your Calendar entry is AS is told to sync all but Private. You create a Private entry on your Axim and then sync and it removes it from the Axim?

No, private only means that no one in the network can see them, even if you've given them access to your outlook calendar. To have items not sync at all you have to put them in a category then create a rule not to sync that category. I do that all the time with some of my appointments I don't want moved. Also, any given item can have multiple categories, so you could do private and not sync together.
