I just got my axim, and I started charging it at 6:00 PM eastern, its now 9 pm eastern. It hasnt been the four hours, but the light at the top of the axim is now lit. Also, I am having a ton of trouble getting the backup battery cover back on. It just wont seem to go on. PLease help with both of these! Is it safe to use my axim yet? The light at the top is green.

You should still wait the 4 hours, just to be safe.
Also, the light, when the battery is "fully charged" will be "Green" - but don't trust that for the initial charge - better safe than sorry, I say.
As for the backup battery cover, I've heard a lot of people complaining about it - you may just need to call Dell and have them ship you out a replacement...

I think you'll be okay - I did the same and my 1400 battery is still rockin' nicely :)

Please do not return your axim because you don't know how to put the battery cover on.
The replacement will be identical. Unless you opened this one with a screwdriver.

I'm afraid if you return it, they'll send you the one they're making for me and my shipment will be delayed another month!!!

I wasnt planning on it. What i do is i slide it in and push down. I tried pressing the black button with my stylus, and it still wouldnt fit snug. I need help! Please! about the charging, I only have 30 min left till it is 3 hours, the light is green so I am just going to go. I will wait five minutes for a reply, in case it is very serious, but i am just going to plug it in.

You shouldn't have to push it down ... it just slides in and clicks into place. Is the black plastic tab still intact? That's all that holds it from sliding off again.
If you look at the cover, there are two tabs on the front, and two little tiny small tabs that are on the sides of the cover. They actually hook onto the case and keep it from lifting straight off.
If they're broken ... perhaps you can order a replacement cover.
Tape would be tacky ... but you need something to keep the battery in place.

Look in the User Guide, it tells how to get backup battery cover on, I had to look it up myself, it's not very intuitive.

If you place a straight-edge across the back of the unit, the top of the black plastic tab should be almost flush with the surface. If it's too low, just bend it back up a little bit ... gently.
All these covers fit sort-of loose and wiggle around slightly. That's "normal".
If the locking tab is really bent down badly, you might put one or two layers of electrical tape on top of the battery, just little pieces between the battery and the tab ... enough to hold up the tab to grab the cover.

thanks i got, one of the little tabs wass slightly bent, so i forced it up slowly with a pocket knife. It now works great, I have already filled my 256mb CF card with Snails, Snatch (the movie) argentum, AOE demo, and a south park episode :)

Nooo - I wasn't saying to send in the entire unit, just have Dell ship out a replacement battery cover :D
But he fixed is, so I guess the point is moot! :)
<shutting up now!>
Wait - actually... Fett, the Snatch movie you have, how did you encode it so that it would fit on the PPC? I'm trying to find the proper settings and software to encode a few flicks, and so far it's only cutting the film down to about 180mb and, using Windows Media Converter, it takes the entire length of the movie to convert... yech.
So - yeah, how are you doing that, then? :)
