I have a new system board in laptop and must reinstall windows, but am not sure
if I can re-sync without doing a hard re-set. I have backed up info to sd card to
restore, but would like to find a way around this if possible.

So again I am here to pick your brains, and again I thank you all :P

You shouldn't need a hard reset. Just install WIN, then Outlook. Your first synch will allow you to load your Ax info into Outlook. You might have to play with the partnerships a little. To the Ax, it might look like you are synching to a second computer.

All went well and your right, no reset needed and now I can finally use this thing...maybe I needed a new laptop instead! :)
