Everytime I turn on my Axim it asks if I want to format the CF card. Right now I have music and themes on it and am able to use it with no trouble. Why does it keep asking me this?

Cheryl,

I don't know the answer but I have a question :D How did you transfer the music and themes to your CF card? I'm hoping to do that today. Must you format the card first?

Thanx,

MissC

I just got my axim 2 days ago. I popped my CF card out of my camera and shoved it into the waiting, tight little slot of the axim, then I plugged in the synch cable and installed activesynch 3.6 from the web. then I Just used Windows Explorer to copy files to the CF card. The card shows up in windows explorer as "mobile device". later I Found out that if you create a My Documents folder in mobile device/cf card the programs will find the mp3s easier when you are making playlists and such. I never had to format the card, probably because my camera already did. Anyway it shows 120 megs free from the 128 meg card so I guess the file system takes up 8 megs.

I formatted the card again. It still asks if I want to format the CF card everytime I turn my Axim on. What is the deal? This has to be happening to someone else, too.

Did you say *SANDISK*???? I swear, I hear another problem about Sandisk, I will not buy another product from them again! :(

Anyway Cheryl, grab a copy of StorageTools, there's an option in there for you to scan for errors on your card n maybe fix it (if its not a hardware problem)

Cheers.

Try doing a soft reset, and if that fails just do a hard reset, it may solve the problem if not, try to see if any of your friends have a CF card and test it, and if still the same thing u probably have a defective AXIM.

I scanned it and there are no errors. Soooo.. where do I go from here? I hope it is not a hardware problem. I have already had to return one Axim :(

Ughhh!!! I had the exact same problem. I think what caused mine was an install locked up half-way through when I was installing something to my PPC. Then everytime I turned it on, or soft reset it would ask me to format. Unfortunately, I couldn't access my card. I ended up having to hard reset. I had the problem once more with the install, then same problem with CF card, then another hard reset. Oddly enough, I haven't had it since.

Ugh! I really wanted to avoid a hard reset, but if that is what it takes.... I guess it really shouldn't be all that bad as long as I back everything up first :)

FYI, it looks like lots of people are having problems with Sandisk products, you may have a bad card.

That's what I am trying to figure out... how can I tell if it is a bad card or a problem with the Axim? I don't have access to another CF card to check that out. Any ideas?

Well, my card isn't Sandisk, and I had a similar problem. Although, mine did eventually stop.

I had the same problem but only with SanDisk products. I tried my roommates card which is a different brand and it worked perfectly.

I'll be staying away from SanDisk from now on, especially with my Axim.
