Voice recording static and clicking

I've recently received my Axim and am still trying to figure out all its features. I tried the voice recorder and the result was terrible--very soft, hissing in the background, and this clicking sound throughout the record. I've tried to use the button on Notes rather than the hard button on the side, and I've tried messing with the settings under microphone. None of this really helps, but I'm not sure what settings are ideal anyway. Any ideas? Any chance my Axim just isn't working correctly?

A little tweaking of microphone will eliminate most or all of the extraneous noise and bring up the volume a bit. You need to click on the microphone icon (found under settings, system). At the bottom of the screen is the sentence "Go to Input to choose.....". Click on "input" and then the "options" tab. Now the tweaking begins. Change to voice recording format to a higher level (mine is set to 44,100 Hzm 16 bit, mono). Then get back to the microphone screen and adjust the microphone gain. Mine is set to "high". Try my settings to see if things improve. The gain will eliminate most or all the popping, etc while the other setting will adjust, to some degree, the volume. Play with various settings until you find the best for your Ax.

You will also find the best recording is the first one after a soft-reset. This is a bug Dell doesn't like to address. The software is not entirely compatible with the mic circuit. Some of the add on recorders perform much better.
