Okay, so I just don't get all this techie stuff....I'm trying but I think I'm just making a mess of my Axim. I tried to download several software applications from freeware, i.e.; wisbar.... It is a zipped file and obviously I'm doing something wrong somewhere. When I open my file explorer on my axim, under my device/My documents/ I have a file/wisbar1[1].0.8.1.zip. I have no clue how to get it to open or how to make it show up so I can use it. Any suggestions? Remember, I'm not into all the techie terms, so very basic instructions would be helpful. I've downloaded many other programs and they worked flawlessly but these "zip" files get me in trouble!!! :(

Thanks

After you have downloaded the zip file, unzip it on ur PC first, and then do an install from there. When you sync with your PPC the next time, it'll copy the necessary install files (usually a *.cab file), and install it on your Ax automatically.

Goodluck!

Fritz,

Thanks, but when I download a file should I "save" it to my computer or "open" it? Not sure how to unzip from the computer. I tried clicking on a exe. file but it wouldn't open and I got some kind of diagnostic warning. I have WinRar or whatever it is on my computer. I've succeeded before but I must be doing something wrong. I guess I have been lucky because I sure didn't know what I was doing

I think I need a "walk-thru" if someone is willing to assist this "newbie"!

Thanks

1. Download the file to your PC. Tell the system to Save the file, not Open it. Remember where you put it. Remember its name.
2. If it ends in " .zip," unzip it. Remember where you put the extracted files. If it ends in ".exe," just remember where you put it in step 1.
3. Go there. Read any Readme or Read this first files. Follow the directions there. If there are no directions, proceed to step 4.
4. Connect the Ax to the PC.
5. On the PC there is probably going to be a file that ends in .exe, usually setup.exe, or install.exe, but it can be anything.exe. Run that program. Follow the screen directions.

99% of the time, that will do it.

One tip, once the install process starts in step 5. you will get a chance to answer a question about wanting to install to the default location. That default location is main memory. If you want to install to a removable card, either CF or SD, or if you want to install in Built-in storage, answer "no" then pick where you want it to go from the next prompt you get.
