I'm trying to figure out exactly what I'm seeing on this thing. If I go to the Memory settings page (I have a 300) I see this:

Total Main Memory: 31.55MB

What I'm not sure of is where the best setting is for the slider bar. I install (and plan to continue installing) all programs to my SD card and all my data to my CF card, not using the built in storage at all. So with that in mind, how do you suggest I set the bar? Currently I have it set at 6.90MB Allocated in Storage and 24.65MB Allocated in Program. Is this setting the best for performance? I'm assuming Storage refers to ROM and Program refers to RAM but where I'm confused is that this device advertises 32MB of RAM and 32MB of ROM so where does it list all memory? What am I seeing on this memory page?? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
shane

Total main memory is RAM (on the Main tab). Built-in storage is left over ROM, 32 mb - 26.8 mb OS (on the storage card tab).
On the main memory slider, it's the white part of the graph that shows resources used, and the blue part is space remaining. Ordinarily the system keeps the slider halfway in the blue zone.

Ok, got that...so how do you have yours set up? I'm looking to compare mine with others, trying to find the best setting for performance. By seeing what other people (that have had theirs longer) have settled in to will help me figure out where I need to be.

thanks,
shane

I've got the 400 unit, so I have a bit more memory to play with ... the main difference is that I've installed all my programs to main memory for (hopefully) the fastest performance. This has used up 15.3 mb, including my basic work documents. I have about 21 mb program memory free (6.97 in use) but this jumped to 13 mb in use when I started pmvp with that shuttle launch vid.
With a p-word doc open, a p-excel spreadsheet open, plus file explorer, it only uses 8.2 mb of prog memory. Loading an e-book in ms reader took it to 11.4 mb in use.
In other words, your settings of 24mb prog memory should be plenty of room for everything.
I always close anything I'm not using though, to help it.

Shane, moving the slider only sets the allocation temporarily (very temporarily in some cases). PocketPC O/S will move that boundary as it needs more or less memory for programs. So, there is no "optimum" setting because it will change as soon as you leave that screen.
