Worried Must have software

I just bought my Axim two weeks ago and I really haven’t had time to “play” with it.
I am therefor wondering if some experienced users could make up their “TOP THREE LIST” of witch “must-have-software” I should buy. And if there are accessories that I should buy.

Since I have ordered the update-cd is it necessary for me to update my ROM to A03?

Hello co2 - welcome to aximsite!

Try clicking on Special Links and then Aximsite Picks - you'll have enough top 3's to keep you going for a while!

  • Agenda Fusion or Pocket Informant (try both and see whom you like best)
  • eWallet or some similar
  • A quality game of some sort (never a doll moment :) )

Otherwise there is a lot of good freeware out there...

If you type much, look into a foldable keyboard. WiFi is nice, but expensive... Bluetooth if you have a bluetooth-enabled mobile phone. Storage-card(s) is a must! And a caseing of some kind, personally I use an aluminium-case, but there are also a lot of different leather cases out there.

Just goes to show that you are going to have to decide what your own Top 3 are going to be, based on what you are going to be doing with your Axim.

I have over 30 applications downloaded and installed on mine, none of which is of the type listed above. (Well, ok, I do have a game or to, but I only use them for benchmarking).

TopDog... this was not intended to be an insult to your top 3... I just don't have the need for a calendar enhancer, an ewallet, or games.

My top 3 would have been ICBar/Wisbar, PocketMVP, and SprintDB

I know...it seems so odd to have a Palm product on my Axim....you would almost think it would jinx it somehow. Cageyjames suggested giving it a try and now I'll never go back. This Reader is so much better than the Microsoft Reader. I just hope that it's not secretly melting the insides of my Axim :)

No worries, you have a very good point! It all depends on what your needs are...

One of the apps that I acually use a LOT is Running Voice GSM... but I didn't list it, because not most people really think of it as a "must-have" app.

I know I'm changing the subject slightly but figure it sort of applies...
Anyway, I noticed that my AX runs slower than ever during install of new software. The window pops up saying it is checking my AX, then brings up the window with question to install to default dir, etc.. This is now taking about 3 minutes when it used to take a few seconds.
Has anyone else noticed install slowing down as the amount of apps installed increases?
I figure it is scanning my device for every single item installed, even though I am installing and don't end up looking at the list (and it doesn't show the list either unless I cancel).
BTW - my top 3 change consistently.
Currently - dell switcher, Total Commander, quicktask

Aximsite Veteran Staff Moderator Medal Bronze Poster

My top three would be Pocket Backup Plus, Pocket Facelift, and any Astraware game.

KnipKnup, I have the same problem with Active Sync since I have a good amount of programs installed. I believe this is because the Add/Remove program from Active Sync is having to check your Axim to see if you have removed any programs since the last time you synced.

1. Agenda Fusion
2. Battery Pack
3. ThemeMaster.

Man, that is just to get you started IMO. Janine, is Palm Reader really better than Microsoft Reader? In what sense? I have alot (as in, more than a 100 ebooks) of ebooks in Microsoft Reader format, will I be able to sort of convert them to Palm Reader if I use it? THanks/

Agenda Fusion - Datebook enhancement that makes the datebook usable and gives it features that make a difference.

Pocket Plus - Utility that puts icons on your Today screen to quickly launch apps. Also makes the X actually close the application so you don't have a bunch of stuff sitting in memory.

Cadenze mNotes - My work uses Lotus Notes and NOTHING comes close to how well this application syncs with Lotus Notes
