Didn't charge it fully the first time!!

Hi,

I didn't charge my Dell Axim Standard fully the first time I gottit. Some colleague started using it without me knowing it. While it was not charged for a full 4 hours.

Will this cause any problems with charging in the future? Should I discharge it completely and charge it again? if so how??

thanks

Didn't charge my Axim Fully the first time.

Hi,

I left my Axim charging on my desk when a colleague came and started using it while it had only been 10 minutes of charging.

So does the battery have a memory because it was not fully charged the first time for 4 hours?

If so anyway can I fully charge it now?

thanks!

Lithimum ion (Lion) batteries aren't supposed to have a memory problem. It should be o.k. for you to fully charge the battery; in fact, this type of battery "prefers" to be constantly charged -- unlike other types that seem to work better if they're continually discharged, then recharged.

The engineer-types can probably give you a better answer on this one, but I suspect it's because they don't want you to run the risk of the battery dying during ActiveSync or setup.

I don't think it will cause any problems. The 4 hours they suggest is really generous. If you want you can pull the battery out and leave it for about 15 minutes (effectively a hard reset) and then recharge it for 4 hours.

Don't worry too much. Next time just charge it fully. DON'T RUN IT ALL THE WAY DOWN. Li Ion batteries don't like that. Just keep it charged as much as you can and wait for the green light to come on.

REALLY, your not supposed to run li ion batt. all the way down??!
I have been doing that to my 2 batt. trying to keep the best charge for them.
What is the recommended way to keep the longest life?

don't deep discharge, recharge frequently. li-ion batts don't have a memory effect, but battery life goes down if you drain them all the way down to 0%-20% too often.

one deep discharge every now and then won't make a big difference. the batteries die in 2-3 years no matter how you treat them.

Threads merged....in the future, please do not post the same thread in multiple forums. It makes it easier to find answers on here if they are all in one common thread. Thanks. :)

Anyway to check the health of the batteries? or how long after I have charged it for 4 hours should the batteries hold out for?

thanks

PS to Moderator: Ooops.. I first posted it in general forum then found that the newbie forum may have been a better place to post it.
