Access Denied, other OS ?'s

I am trying to copy a file to my Axim. I am getting a "Cannot Copy, access is denied" dialog box. The file is not tagged read only. I'd like to see how much room I have on my Axim (it's new so that shouldn't be the problem) but I dont know how to determine available memory. The OS is just different enough from what I'm used to to keep me frustrated. NO documentation of any depth on this OS that I can find.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Richard

I may be that a file of that name already exists in the ROM, in which case it's read only and cannot be overwritten normally. Use File Explorer from MS, or get Total Commander (free) to explore the Axim. You can also use Activesync and explore from the PC just as you do other windows.

The file does exist on the Axim and that is the problem but I had overwritten it several times from a different computer earlier today. The problem started when I switched editing from my desktop at work to a new Sony Vaio notebook at home. The Sony is running XP. as is the desktop. What privileges are being violated and how can I change them?

Thanks, Richard

Problem Solved. I've unchecked "files" from the sync menu on ActiveSync and all is well.

Thanks for your help. Richard

Hey Jake,

I believe you can have a file in RAM superscede a file in ROM of the same name.. Driver updates for example.

Yeah, but I'm not sure if you can overcome the "system" or "read only" flag with just normal copy and paste functions, particularly if you are trying to put the files into the same directory. I've not actually tried to do that, but when I've loaded software updates (Reader, for example) I know that the install process put new versions in place. Maybe there's a built-in hierarchy of system librararies that lets anything we can put in place come before the ROM versions. That would make sense. Anybody know?
