Question File Explorer

My new Axim X5 with ppc2003 syncronises okay but will not allow access through Wndows Explorer.

I get the message 'critical communications services failed to start. Try resetting device'

I have carried out a soft reset but no change. The only software i have installed is Tom Tom navigator and everything worked fine.

Any ideas anyone???

did you install the Dell driver? have you tried to reset the PC and soft reset the Axim soft reset is the button, not turning it on and off. Failing that, reinstall AS, if there are other USB devices remove and and plug the cradle directly to the PC.

I've seen that now and then but normally the one-finger salute fixes it :)

There is also AS 3.7 on the website which seems to be a little more stable than 3.5 on the CD.

It's now working!

The problem was not ActiveSync as i already had 3.7 and the drivers were ok.

The problem was caused by my Zonealarm firewall which did not interfere normally but prevented Windows Explorer from communicating with the PPC

I'm using ZA Pro with no issues. I suggest you try tweaking your various various security settings.

I have done. I had set ZA to prevent Windows Explorer comunicating with the internet (you can't be too careful these days). This was the problem.
