I long ago decided it's OK not to use all the features of every program. I generally wait until I think I need a feature, then I go looking for it. The rest of the stuff, I would just forget after I figured it out anyway. So I don't know all the icons, but I know some of them.
The bell means you want a reminder (the Ax will turn on, sound a tone, and put a message on the screen). These actions are programmable, go to start menu, settings, personal, sounds & notifications, notifications. In box 1, select reminders. You can enable/disable/select the sound, decide whether a notification will be displayed on the screen, and decide whether the useless power light will flash.
The circle/arrows means this is a recurring appointment (every day / week / month / etc.)
The sheet with lines & pencil means this appointment has notes. (You can write 'em, then look at 'em later.)
I don't know what the house means, but I think it's related to assigning catgories.
I don't know what the two-headed person means, but I think it's related to assigning attendees.
To create an all-day appointment, change the Type from Normal to All-day.
The PPC calander interface is so terrible, that an entire industry has popped up to make the interface better, along with religious wars about whether calendar+ or Pocket Informant or Agenda Fusion is better. I would give you my opinion, but nobody else seems to share it. Just look around. You'll see plenty of posts.
The key means you have marked the appointment personal.
