Help wanted:

Well, I'm just starting my search for my perfect, and first at that, PDA. I believe that I've found its closest proximity with Dell's Axim X5 400. I just have a couple questions.....

While at Dell's website looking to customize my order I stumbled apon too memory selections, "Dell Additional Memory," and "Extended Memory." Are they the same thing? and if so, it certainly looked like the Extended memory had a better vaule with the 256mb chip.

Also are other, generic, keyboards available or do we have to order dell's or the ultra small wireless available at ThePocketSolutions.com website? I look forward to many happy years with me and my axim.. thanks for the would-be replys folks.

Russ,

Well - I think you've come to the right place for your general Axim questions! :)

First off - to be honest, don't order memory from Dell's website, you'll pay through the nose! It'd be best to search somewhere like http://www.froogle.com/ or http://www.pricegrabber.com/ to find the best price.

The same goes for keyboards - there are a lot being developed for the Axim, and your best bet is to search for and then post a message if you don't find any recommendations, on keyboard selections for the Axim. Once you're done, go hunting for the best price available.

I can assure you that, unless Dell gives you a 60% discount - you'll save a TON by shopping around.

HTH,

Nick

Two other places I have done well on memory are Costco (sandisk 128 appox $39 when rebate active) and Amazon (just got a Viking 256 for appox $55-60 after rebate, and they currently have some buys on Sandisk). But definitely shop other sources as Dell is high on the memory prices.Have fun, and come back with any questions..K

Don't forget Ebay as well. I got a Sandisk 256MB CF card for under 50$ there.

I have another question regaurding memory. Do the cards work to compress files, e.g. a 3mb mp3 might be only 1mb... or does it remain the same during/after transfer from pc to memory card? I hope thats the case, but it might be an empty rumor i've heard.

BTW, thanks for the posts, those sites were really helpfull... and I always check ebay! :)
