ActiveSync / Advantgo problems

I received my new Axim on Wednesday and have spent countless hours since then trying to figure the thing out. Please help me realize it's worth it. Dell's even sending me a new base unit, but I don't think that's the problem.

I'm getting stuck on the Advanto sync process. My Dell laptop and the Axim seem to be in sync with everything else when doing a sync, except for the Advantgo. It shows that it's updating pages while in sync, but when done, when I go to my Axim, it still shows a webpage under ie for Advantgo (\windowagdefault.htm). This doesn't even match the handbook instructions that there should be a favorites with advantgo that should be able to be tapped 'Activate'. It just shows a webpage with instructions to go back to the activesync on my laptop and check the advantgo button under options (which is already checked).

The only thing I can figure out is that it's recognizing my old Palm OS files and updating the palm account, even though I've gone to avantgo and deleted that device from my account.

Anyone run into this same problem or know of a fix? I've done a hard reset twice (once on the phone with Dell), deleted all of the old Palm files in my system, reset all connections, and run into this same roadblock each time. Everything else seems to be connecting and sync'ing correctly, and everything on the Axim seems to be ok.

TIA!

I'm having the same problem. I'm about ready to go nuts. I thought it was just me. Let's see, so far Intellisync gave me problems until I upgraded the software and installed a patch for pocket PPC2003. My company uses Lotus notes so I'm forced to use a third party sync program to talk to the program. If you use anything other than a Microsoft product as a PIM you have to use an add on program like this. Hmmmm... Then AvantGo wouldn't work and my Audible manager won't see my SD memory card (Simpletech 256Mb.). All in all not a good first week with the Axim. I'm sure things will be worked out and things will be OK again.

Please help,
Tom

TIA,

I'll bet you were syncing a Palm device with your PC before using the Axim. I found this on one of the newsgroup threads. And it worked for me. Make sure you back up your data before the hard reset. Let me know how it goes.

I hope this helps those folks who've been having trouble with AvantGo - that's built into the Pocket PC 2003 OS.

For those who haven't been keeping track, I've been unable to view AvantGo channels on my new iPaq 2215, despite the fact that I watch ActiveSync sync the channels. I went into Pocket IE, went to Favorites, and the AvantGo channels link would only display the "how do I do this".

The problem here was actually rather simple. I had been an AvantGo user on my Palm OS machine (a Handspring Visor Deluxe), and that conduit...installed a long time ago...was preventing ActiveSync from installing the proper files for the Pocket PC.

Here's how I fixed it.

I did a hard reset on my iPaq. I uninstalled the AvantGo Connect from the PC (notebook in my case) and uninstalled ActiveSync. Then I reinstalled ActiveSync and in the options list, I checked it "on". No longer spotting the old AvantGo Connect, ActiveSync went ahead and installed the proper files on the iPaq on the first sync! You'll see it actually do the process in the AvantGo part of the sync...it downloads and configures while syncing. Then, you have to go into AvantGo Connect (Settings > Connections) on the
Pocket PC, or in Options under ActiveSync, and put in your personal ID.

It then worked great!

So the upshot...if you've used AvantGo before on the desktop/notebook, UNINSTALL the PC version of AvantGo Connect before you set up and sync your Pocket PC 2003 unit. If you don't do that, ActiveSync thinks you already have AvantGo, and won't go get all those needed files.

Or....

Or, hopefully you can fix the problem by going into ActiveSync on your desktop, and selecting the "Settings" screen for AvantGo, then deleting your username and password.

Then connect your Axim and synchronize, and AvantGo will download the necessary software to the Axim. Mine did not even show AvantGo correctly in the favorites, nor as an icon in the Programs folder until I did this!

This saves you the pain of a hard reset if it works.

Once you've gotten this far, go back into desktop ActiveSync and once again under the "Settings" for Avantgo, delete your old profile line. A new one will be there with a username of "anonxxxxxxxx". Change that username to your own Avantgo username, and enter your password, then sync again.

Voila.

tamathumper,

This wont work if you previously had used avantgo for the Palm on your PC. I tried everything I read on this board and the newsgroups. Nothing worked until I performed the procedure I pasted above. Trust me I didn't want to do the hard reset but luckily I don't have too much on my Axim yet so it wasn't a big deal. I'm sure that there are different levels of "messed up" and mine was the most severe.

I agree with TRG. I had Avantgo with my Palm III (yes, Palm III) from 98. Anyway, I too have the same problem described above. I finally hard-reset too as well as taking care of the old Avantgo software on my PC.

Problem fixed though I don't really use Avantgo. I just hate seeing error/warning messages.
