Newb to forum, Newb to Axim, Newb to PDAs...TONS OF QUESTIONS! :)

Well thought, like most, my first post should be in the newbie forum so here it goes:

Got my Axim Advanced w/ 2002 today (used) and got some questions about it:

How do you turn it off (just the power button?)

I have 5 black half-blobs on the bottom (which looks like it is because of the backlight) of the screen..whats up?

Can I just leave the thing in the charger overnight or should I unplug it/the charger or what?

How come when sometimes Im putting a media file on it, it sometimes said its full yet Ive put nothing on it (maybe when I run programs? - dunno..)

Speaking of programs, how do you quit out of them besides Dell's little switcher program on the top...I cant find any other way - X just minimizes it in the background...

How can I find complete system specs for it (like if its a 250 or 255) was there like a production point where the newer ones starting coming? - edit: I have the Intel PXA255 - whats the difference between this one the and 250?) Im also running firmware AO2 - what are the benefits of the newer firmware updates?

Any other tips or suggestion (programs or otherwise) to make? What brand of SD cards do you recommend? I got a wireless router and wireless CF card on the way, both Dlink (I know some think they suck, but Ive had no problems with them in the past) Im looking at a Panasonic SD card on eBay since it didnt have any problems from happycheesecakes website - but any others that are error free with the Axim? - looking for 256+ in size..

ALSO - what kind of screen protector do you all recommend? Im not using any right now, but dont really want to scratch the screen either...and what kind of case? looking for tin - but will go with the one that protects the best without adding a lot of size..

Thanks a lot and hopefully this is the first of many posts here...

- vicks

As you can see, Im really new to all of this...

First off, welcome to the site!!

Typically we turn it off by pressing the button at the top of the Axim. It uses the universal power button symbol, which is a circle with a verticle line though it. This actually put's it in "suspend mode", which is what we typically do.

Yes the spots are normal (i guess) if you hold the Axim and adjust the angle you view it they will go away.

I leave mine in the charger over night. I would hope to believe the charger is smart enough to not over charge it and not to lessen the battery life. What does everyone ekse think?

I don't know why it's saying it's full. Maybe you need to adjust how much your using for ram and how much your giving to programs.

The switcher is the only way to do it without downloading third pary programs. I use ICABar and so do a lot of people here. It's a free app.

There are two places to check. Under start->settings->system tab->about will tell you the processor and windows version. Under start->settings->system tab->system information will tell you more info and the ROM. If the ROM is not A03, then I suggest upgrading it, otherwise the processor information is not correct (I think A02 also tells the correct processor).

Lots of people are having issues with San Disk SD cards, even though I haven't. Search the forums thre is a lot of information covering this topic.

I acutally like the dlink router. I have a d-link and smc and the d-link is by far much better. The d-link cf card is also a good buy!

Once again... welcome to the site!!!

You can also consider wisbar as an ICBar alternative.

Other good freebie programs include:

Total Commander

ftx browser

You should also check out some of the freebie multimedia players such as gsplayer and pocket mvp. As well, check out the staff picks

As for a screen protector, I use the Brando, which many people find to be satisfactory.

Have fun with your new toy!

Additional, I believe the battery charger is smart enough to not overcharge tha battery. If you check the back of the case in the morning and it's not overly warm to the touch then the overnight charge should not me a problem.

It is possible to shut down programs other than using the switcher bar but it isn't nearly as convenient. Got settngs>system tab>memory>running programs. It's similar to Task manager in windows.
