Question reinstalled windows xp, now activesync won't detect my axim

I got my Axim about a month ago, and out of the box it installed fine and have been using it with no problems. Last week, a non-axim related problem forced me to format my PC. I installed Windows XP Pro, now when I install ActiveSync 3.5, when it gets to the point where it trying to detect the PPC, it just says Device not found (though it does say USB available). Also, I will get windows popping up "Unknown USB device" and asking for drivers, it doesn't find anything when I do automatic recognition.

There are a couple things I can think of that may be a problem -- is the Axim married to a certain windows install after you sync it for the first time? My PC name is the same (i think), but I am using a different version of windows than I was originally. Also, I think I did have the cradle plugged in during my windows install, which might have caused problems.

Anynone have any idea? I have been trying off and on all week after work and having zero luck... can't sync up or copy over files, its driving me nuts . Thanks for any help in advance.
