ActiceSync - which version to use?

Hi all,

I'm a new owner of an X5, 400Mhz version. Bought it as an ex-demo thru ebay... Love it so far, except I can't get it connected to my pc, somewhat limiting its capabilities - ie more apps!

specifics:
OS: Axim - PocketPC 3.0.11171
PC - XP pro.

What happens:
- installed AS - first supplied version (3.5), then 3.7, then back to 3.5 when that didn't work.
- go thru 'get connected', plug in USB etc.
- Axim launches AS, says connected
- PC launches AS, says connecting... for 30 sec or so.
- Axim says connection dropped
- PC gives message "unable to connect to your mobile device. It is not compatible with the version of A/S currently installed on this computer." Same message (or v. similar) with both versions of AS.

Should i be using a different version of AS?

The devices are obiously communicating. On a couple of attempts windows recognised the USB device and said somethign like "Installing Dell AXIM X5"... so USB's working. I've tried soft reboots etc too... no avail. Hesitant to do a hard reset - i have data on there i would prefer not to loose, but can't backup (no computer connection, no memory card yet.)

Anyway, I'm stumped by it. Hope someone out there can help me!

Thanks,
Alan

First make sure you are using the Dell USB drivers. With the Ax connected to the cable, look under Device Manager for Windows CE USB devices and you should see Dell Axim USB Sync. If not, you haven't installed the Dell drivers. THey are on the CDROM in the root directory, I think there's a .inf file there to install them.
