You need to get 3rd party software like spb pocket plus.

Or else go into settings>memory>running programs and close them that way.

You can use the Switcher Bar to close programs:

Start---> Settings ---> System ---> Switcher Bar

You will see a little icon at the top of your screen that looks like a box with one arrow going up and one arrow going down. Tap on this and it will give you options to close your programs.

Alternatively, you could try freeware:

The quickest way is to find the tiny down arrow under the red "ok" at the top right of the screen. It's just a caret pointing down,
barely shows up at all. Tap that, and you get a menu that lists open programs, then shows the Windows icon twice, saying "Desktop" and "Programs." Tapping these icons takes you there. The running programs and Desktop, Programs list shifts around some, but then there's a black line across the menu and two lines;
the first is "Close All," the second is "Close All but Active."

Maybe it's a Windows Mobile 2003 extra?
I don't know, since I started with this with my new Dell. Anyway, FWIW, it's free.
