Activesync AvantGo problems
I have searched and found many people having problems with Activesync and AvantGo, and have tried their varied solutions (uninstalling ActiveSync and AvantGo, doing a hard reset, and reinstalling), but to no avail. I have PC2002 and installed ActiveSync 3.7 and the latest AvantGo. I probably have an old USB card (computer is nearly 2 years old Dell), but this is my work computer, so I cannot do much with it.
When I sync, the other items (calendar, tasks, contacts, files) go fine until it gets to AvantGo. I have only one very small channel to sync, but it gets there, starts synching, and then disconnects. When I go to pIE and hit the AvantGo folder, it does not show me any content but tells me how to add AvantoGo to my ActiveSync options. It is already checked on ActiveSync, but no matter how hard I try, it will not sync.
Only one two occasions has this worked, and I don't know what I did differently those times. I always have to take my Axim out of its cradle and replace it to start it connecting (may be due to Norton Antivirus software that I cannot disable because I am at work).
I tried a different USB port, wiggling my cradle and connection, doing soft resets, etc. but the only time my Axim will stay connected is if I have the AvantGo option turned off in ActiveSync. Then it will sync properly and stay connected.
I am getting frustrated. Any other suggestions before I give up altogether on AvantGo?

I got Avangto to sync once this week, and I had reduced my content to one small item, like you mentioned. When I saw I could get something I went to avantgo one the web, and added a few others; When I synched again nothing came down!
I am not sure of the problem: AvantGo, Active Sync, virus scanning SW on my work PC, proxy server settings; or some combination of these.
I have surrendered for now. I will try avantgo at home; but have to rebuild my home PC before I can get on the internet there. So, I'm holding off.

I had a similar problem with ActivSync 3.7. Downgraded to 3.6 and no longer have the problem.

I went to the M$ site and grabbed ActiveSync 3.7. I think the actual install file is corrupt because it wouldn't install no matter what I did. Reinstalled the original ActiveSync (3.5) from my cd and after a bit of messing with it, finally got back in sync with my new baby. *whew*!
My guess is it's ActiveSync 3.7 that's the culprit. But that IS just a guess.

I have the same problems described above trying to sync with the cradle. I now sync using my wireless LAN. Problem solved.

Norton, USB & Activesync
I am having the same issues with my USB cradle.
I can sync thru the USB cradle if I turn off the Norton Personal Firewall, leaving Avantgo to auto-update at start up. I can sync WITH Norton & Avantgo active, if I use my D-Link 660W nic card.
I have tried using this "tip" from the boards;
Cannot connect to Internet when using the Microsoft Active Sync program
Situation:
After you install Norton Internet Security (NIS) or Norton Personal Firewall (NPF), the computer cannot connect to the Internet. You may see the message "Wcescomm.exe is attempting to listen for connections from other computers" and the following messages from NIS:
"Alert
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Active Sync\wcescomm.exe
Protocol: TCP inbound
Local address: all local network adapters:5679"
"Alert
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Active Sync\wcesmgr.exe
Protocol: TCP inbound
Local address: all local network adapters:5678"
NOTE: Solution to follow in later post!!!

USB, versus wireless Activsync issues;
Post #2;
message length rule applied:
Solution:
Some computers use the Microsoft Active Sync program to transfer data to and from the computer to other devices such as a Pocket PC. This program uses ports that NIS normally blocks. If you see any of the previous messages, resolve the problem by creating three firewall rules to permit communications for this program.
This didnot solve my problem with the USB sync'ing, so I set Norton PF to "look" for programs accessing the system, no go.
Any Ideas? Thanks!
