Question How accurate is the battery meter?

Currently it shows %22 on my 400Mhz WM2003. Both the MS Battery meter and the Mem Bat Meter that I installed in addition. It reads around 1:12 next to it, which probably represents approximate time it can run on current battery, because it has been decreasing during last 8-10 minutes.

How have your experiences with those meters been? Do you really think It can go for another 30 minutes or so without any problem? I have many software in my Axim, i don't want them to go away, so...

I can hear some of you say, why do you have to use it, wait until next recharge, well, it is a possibility.. But I wanted hear what you have to say about this meter possibility and relaibility.

Also, isn't there a way to charge Axim with the power from USB ? Or at least keep it from consuming battery at every sync. No, I don't have the cradle.

Thank You~!

i have batmem time too. the thing with those time estimates is they're never accurate. That has to do with its calculations on how you're using it and all, The % meter is pretty accurate though, just dont rely on the time left thing.

Best thing with the lithium ion battery is to keep it charged, dont let it drain often below 20%. Your software wont go away if the battery is fully drained, the backup battery then does its work. And yea there is a way to sync & charge with usb, problem is people say if its under 70% the cable will actually drain the battery, but higher and it should charge. I havent used one of those, my ax will last 2 or 3 days through normal use if I dont recharge at the most it will go down to 40 or 50%.
you can also get a car charger to charge up the ax on your way to somplace if you go to work and alot of traffic

Thanks X!

Will there be any problem or damage to my Axim if I leave it on charge overnight? As far as my usage of Axim, i'd leave it on charge whenever I am not using it, that would be the entire time I am home.. I guess it's ok, right?

It's only semi-related, but, my power seems to drain really quickly. Would getting a different battery help?

Depends. How do you do you use your Dell? If you listen to MP3s, Browse the Web, and Play games all at the same time, its normal for it to drain quickly. But if you aren't doing all that stuff and it still drains, then yes a new battery will help.

Just from the limited amount of time I've had my X5 Advanced, I've determined that the big power drains are playing mp3's and using my wireless network card. I took my new baby to work and didn't use the wifi card and the charge stayed good all day. Next day I used wifi and the battery was under 50% before lunch. Yesterday I played some mp3's and the bejeweled game without wifi card and, though the power didn't drain quite so drastically, it went faster than my first day at work with the Ax.

Conclusion... wifi drains, games and music leak and normal use is no biggie.

:-)

While my Ax is connected via regular USB cable to PC, it just eats up the battery.. It drains battery more while it is connected than while I am listening to mp3s..

Should have gotten the sync cradle... hmph

Also, my backup battery seems to empty up fast as soon as regular battery is below 40%. That's a bummer, as you have to buy new ones (not rechargeable as far as i know...)

How much is the regular additional battery? Maybe extended one?

The cradle still requires the power adapter to be plugged in and you can certainly do that while using the cable as well.

Just in case someone points out the charge/sync cables sold by 2nd parties (not Dell), these are generally pretty poor at actually charging, in fact, often causing very rapid drain of the battery.

I think the regular battery is around $55 from Dell. CompGeeks often has them for about 10 dollars less and they also have often had refurb chargers for ~$7. I bought two extra chargers so I can keep the original at home, one at work, and one in my suitcase for trips (unfortunately, I checked earlier and they don't seem to have either at the present).

Try Anton Tomovs Battery Analyzer. It's only $7.99 at handango and it charts battery usage in the background. Try it out for free. I use it all the time now (I bought it when it was 50% off, he he.) It is EXTREMELY accurate and I can't live without it!

Thanks Ike, for your output on that. I believe any power supply will work as long as you get the voltage, amp & -/+ matched, probably one from radioshack, I got a bag full of supplies, maybe one will match.. :) but for $7, no need to have an adventure ;) ...

Also, thnx cherdman, for your opinion on the battery meter, i will make sure to give it a try.

And oh, those batteries DO COST a lot. Where can I get an additional USB cord for a low price, i don't really really need it, but I am tired of carrying it back and forth to work and what not... Anyone has one to spare?

Thanks~!
