CF, SD, MMC card question - digital camera
I have a Kodak DX3700 digital camera that has a 64mb MMC card with the kodak logo on it made by a japan manufactor.

I thought that CF,SD, and MMC are different sizes. I opend my digital camera and noticed that the blank card for the SD slot on my Axim is the exact size and I tryed it and it works great. However all of the photos storage on the card by the camera will not open. If I place an image from my desktop to the card it I can open just fine. If I use the preview one the camera I can't see the image that I placed. (I justed renamed an image and transerfered from camera>desktop>back to card.

Could someone explain to me the differnece if any and what casues the the Axim not to read the jpg storaged on the card by the camera? The camera reads as an external drive and there is no conversion form it to my pc.

Have I made any mistakes by using the MMC card in the Axim?

If not it is like finidng gold in terms of storage in my other gadgets!

As always any help is apperciated.

Well i am officially lost... Axim can use MMC, SD and CF cards as far as i know.

My bro has a Canon A70 and i let him use my CF card, and teh camera creates a folder on it where it stores the pictures.

Perhaps your camera cannot see the image because its not in the folder?

You can use MMC in the Axim. I have a Kodak camera that I use MMC or SD with and interchange the cards with the Axim. No problems at all. I can also open the photo files from the camera on the Axim too.

What picture viewing software have you installed? have you tried the Resco stuff on the CD?

I know the camera will look for a specific file format, location and I'm pretty sure naming convention.

Can you describe in a bit more detail the software on the PPC you're using and what happens when you try to open it.

FYI MMC cards are slightly thinner. They're also a fair bit slower.

Sorry. I can be long-winded and haphazard.

I just didn’t realize that the Axim can read MMC cards.

It would be great if I could take high-res pictures with my current camera on a jobsite and put the card in my Axim for review later. The images are all in the same directory on the card and are the same format (jpeg). It is like what the camera places on the MMC can not be read by the Axim and what the Axim/PC places on the card can not be read by the camera.

Can the Axim see the files on the MMC card?

If it can see the files, have you tried to open them?

If you tried, using what apps and what happens?

The card on the camera will not store the images in a "My Documents" folder, which may make it a little confusing for your software, but for me I just browse in Explorer (on the Axim) to the files and open them. Piece of cake I click on the file in explorer and the Resco Viewer opens up and I'm away.

If your Axim cannot read the storage card (see the folders, I think DCIM and HCIM from memory, could be wrong) then the camera may be using a non FAT file format. In which case you're out of luck. I doubt that this is the case though.

I installed the Resco file explorer. It is reading the card as follows:

\SD Card\DCIM\100k3700\DCP_0446.jpg

When I click on the file it show a box labeled Pictures and an "unable to load file" message. I can still read the jpeg that I transfered to the card from my PC windows explorer.

Digital photo files
I have a Nikon 3100 Coolpix that I use for just quick snapshots on vacations and other activities when I don't want to lug around my Minolta 35mm SLR and accessories. I have only had one issue with putting the CF card into my Axim to view/store the pictures before uploading to my desktop PC. In one instance the transfer didn't happen and the card was no longer readable in order to recover the photos. Befor this incident and ever since, its worked just fine.

Bill,

Maybe it's just incompatible?? If you copy the file from the camera to the PC and then to the Axim does it give the same error?

Thanks,

Transfering from MMC card to My Documnets or my CF card works fine. I just wish that I didn't have to do that, as it takes a while to transfer several images. I can live with it. Thanks again....
