Mad

I had been using my Axim for several years to access the internet via a wireless router/lan when it suddenly just stopped - it identifies the wireless lan correctly (by name and the arrows suggest a connection) but if I try to access the net I get the "page not found" message and for e-mail "cannot connect to the incoming server...". It seems to me that both messages appear as soon as I click without there being any time to check....I did not make any changes to the router or Axim and the net connection comes to the router from a cable tv box via ethernet. I have spent quite some time reading through the info and checking that the settings are ok (powersave off, connecting via work tried, etc.). I would be most grateful for any suggestions. By the way, when it worked it worked beautifully - broadband speed, but then that is what I am subscribed to... Not sure now whether this is in the right place since I have an X-30...

I would try emptying the cache and freeing up other memory since this can happen when the Axim does not have enough free memory.

Also, go into the list of wireless networks and remove all those listed that you don't normally use. In fact, you can remove them all, including your home network, and enter the settings again once the Axim finds the network and asks if you want to connect (note, you may need to turn off/unplug the wireless router or get out of it's range before you'll be able to remove it from the list).

Ike or anyone that can help me.

I used the key: (the "3" table) -- 1369121518. Shouldn't that be okay?? I deleted all connections, and started over. Still not connecting. It never asks me for a key when it is not entered.

If it will connect when the security is off, doesn't that mean that it is talking to the router?? (it is a trendnet)

That key should work (although giving it out on the web kind of negates the reason for having a key).

Are you saying if you delete the settings from the Axim and reestablish a connection, it never asks for the key? If that's the case, it sound like you are not activating security properly on the router (or you are connecting to a neighbor's network and not your own).

I know I can change the key if I am sure that I have the right parameters. How do you change channels? I tried last night to connect to a neighbor's that showed up unlocked. It did ask me to configurefor the first time, but it was trying to connect to channel 1, which is me. I deleted my configuration and settings by turning off my router. Then I tried to connect after turning it on, and the box came up asking me to configure (&put in a key). Now it wants to connect to a channel that I am not on. Your tutorial said to change chanels too, but I can't figure out how. It won't let me type in a different number. Again, I got the 169XXX IPN. I saw "ping" mentioned on a thread. Isn't there some way to type in my correct IP for it???

You can only change the channel in the router settings. If it's trying to connect to a different channel, then it's trying to connect to a different network. You should chose 1, 6, or 11 as the channel since all other channels overlap one or more of these. If you see your neighbor is on 1, use 6 or 11. If you have multiple networks in the area and all of these are in use, pick the one that matches the weakest of the neighbor's networks. Of course you should also give your network a unique name (SSID) so that you are sure you are connecting to your own.

Getting the 169 number is really just another sign that you are not making an association with your network. You can set the Axim up with a static IP but in my experience, that seldom solves the problem.

I am chanel 1, and that is what it is trying to connect to, even when I tried to connect to my neighbor's. At any rate, it still says "Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address."

Should the symbol at the bottom right side of the today screen show a lock with an x on it?

If your neighbor is on channel 1, then that could be a major part of your problem. PPCs seem to have greater difficulty in separating signals on the same channel.

I'm not sure what symbol you are referring to. There are at least two symbols there on the X51v - the WiFi (5 bars either solid green, solid yellow, solid red or broken white depending on the status), a Bluetooth symbol, and can be others depending on other devices/programs that are installed. I'm not sure I've ever seen a lock with an x but if it is on the WiFi symbol, my guess is that it is saying the network is secured and you have not entered the correct key.

Try setting it up in the Odyssey client. I never used it until a few months ago when I had to because a network I needed used certificates, but since then i found its much eaiser even if not strictly required. It is alot better then the default connection manager.

We seem to have a couple of different questions here, and I'm not sure the Odyssey thing is for me.

I have an Axim X3i. I am channel 1 and can connect without WEP, but can't connect if I put on WEP. I tried to connect to a neighbor (no security)and turned off my connection. Status said that she was channel 9, but I couldn't change from channel 1 to try it. Both Dell and TrendNet say my settings are okay, and blame the other (or Microsoft). I went through the Ike's tutorial, and did everything that I understood, but there is something I am missing. Dell won't talk to me any more because they say Axim doesn't work with a G router. TrendNet says they always broadcast in B in case you don't have a G receiver. Besides, it does connect without security. Okay, my key is correct, and other suggestions?

The icon is a padlock with an x and is there when I first turn on WiFi and continues after I try to connect. It does sound like it is not taking the key, huh?

You are still seeing things I've never seen. I just tried entering a wrong key on my X51v for my own network. It tries to connect for about half a minute and then tells me the key was wrong and asks for a different one. It never gives me a padlock/Xed out icon but maybe that was something in WM03 indicating a bad key.

If your neighbor is on channel 9 (which is a poor choice since it keeps people from using 2 of the three independent wireless channels), the PPC will only try connecting to it on that channel. It may not be able to connect because of MAC filtering.

If you can connect without WEP enabled and that's the only thing you change on the router that causes it to stop connecting, then it sure sounds like you are entering the key incorrectly - either on the Axim or the router. It is possible to type the key in a text document in WM03 and then copy and paste the key into the network settings so at least you'd be able to see what is really being entered.

I don't think Odyssey was provided with the X3i so that's a moot point unless you want to spend money on it. I can tell you it shouldn't be necessary and I've seen just as many people state that their wireless stopped working when they tried with it as those that found it easier to use for connecting.

I'm having a similar problem with my SDIO wifi card. I can connect to my network but I cannot transfer any data. Every page (ie google, wikipedia, etc) says "page not found - check the page name and try again" - I've got strong signal. I'm connected to the router properly. But nothing goes through. Any ideas?
