Wifi Connectivity problem

Hello - I have been trying to get my X51v working on a home wifi network. I have copied the parameters from an already functioning notebook PC on the same network (but have chosen a different IP address, of course). The parameters are as follows
Authentication - open
Data Encryption - wep
Network Key / Index - as provided by ISP
Network Authentication (IEEE 8.2.1) unchecked
The symptom I get is that I can log into the wifi network, but when I try to navigate to any well known site (eg, Google) I get "The page cannot be found. Check the name and try again"
This suggests to me that the Axim is able to make a connection with the wireless router, but is unable to navigate into the wd¡eb beyond that. Because other computers on the network can navigate beyond the router, and that the parameters in place on the Axim are the same as these successful routers, I would suggest that the problem is somewhere on the Axim. Does anyone have any tips on this. I have had an XDA working on this wifi netwerk in the past but have now had to hand that back to my ex-employer, so have not been able to reference a successful windows mobile network setup for this issue. Any tips will be gratefullt received.

Start with the Check these first part of the Troubleshooting section of the WiFi Guide.

I am curious about the 'Network Key / Index - as provided by ISP.' Did the ISP actually provide the wireless router that you are using? A frequent problem is attempting to use a passphrase rather than the hexadecimal key (which will be exactly 10 or 26-characters, depending on the level of WEP being used) or improperly entering the key (for example, using the letter O instead of the number 0 (zero); the letter l instead of the number 1 (one)).

Peer to peer is not a network connection, it's just a computer connection, and while it's possible to connect to the internet that way, it requires special settings on the PC. Do you have a wireless router? Is it set to mixed (B+G) mode? Did you happen to check the link I provided?

Well I see your problem in your router setup you need too set it to both thats A&B because PDA is set to 802.11B and your router is set to 802.11G.

Wpa-psk

I have been trying to connect an X3 to the internet via a Netgear router. The router has WPA-PSK security set on it. I tried WEP, but none of the laptops can connect to the router. So by the process of elimination, WPA-PSK is the only one that makes my router secure and allows my laptop to connect to the router. When I remove all security from the router, the X3 can connect, but with the security set on the router, no dice. The router is set to mix b & g. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

The X3 cannot utilize WPA. I really doubt that your PC cannot use WEP.

Not really. If the wireless network is WPA/WPA2 secured and your PDA has an old version of ROM, it will never get connected.

So an up-to-date ROM is very import here.

If your router uses DHCP, make sure that you're not entering an IP address for the Ax--the router will automatically handle it. Also, try pinging your router's IP from the Dell wlan utility. If your IP setting is correct, then your IP config should be OK.

My Axim X3i will connect to my TRENDnet router without security. But when I add WEP it says that it cannot get an IP address, or else it will give me a 169XXXX address. I called trendnet and Dell. Each blames the other. Trendnet says that it is a G router, but broadcasts in B if the network adapter needs it. Where do I go from here. (I'm a newby, so please don't get to fancy with your answer, or I won't know what you are talking about.)

The most obvious question is, are you entering the WEP key correctly after enabling security? Notice I said key. This differs from a password and is exactly 10 or 26 characters long (depending on if you are using 64- or 128-bit WEP). Also, the key is hexadecimal meaning it consists of the letters a through f and the numerals 0 through 9. If you see something that looks like a 1, it is the number one, not the lower case L and the 0 is a zero, not a capital o.

I think so. I used the "3" table -- 1369121518. Shouldn't that be okay??
