I just bought a used Axim x51v for my sister for christmas and as I was investigating how to flash it to the m17 rom I found that putting any sd card in it causes it to hang. The only thing to do once it's hung is to soft reset, and if I leave the card in then, it hangs after the system is back up. Taking the card out again has no effect. I tried a sandisk 1 gb, a pqi 2 gb micro sd in an adapter, and a lexar 128 mb (though this one was formatted for linux). I tried the first 2 formatted fat and fat32. CF cards seem to work fine. Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? Is it fixable at all? Have I been screwed?

Which rom version is on it now? If not a12 perhaps a usb update? If it's already at a12 perhaps a hard reset might work?

It's already at A12 and I've done several hard resets, to no avail. Is there a way to flash the rom without using the sd card? Maybe a newer image would get it to work...

Anyone? I'm thinking it must be a hardware issue and that I should return it.

I wonder if you have tried manually disable activesync auto connection.
There was a thread talking about the fake server settings. But I could not find it for you.
The basic idea is to disable activesync's auto sync feature.
But the setting is not available by default, you want to add one fake server first (everything temp.) then change the auto sync settings to manual.
It solved my problem with SDs. But that time my ROM as A01
