Blank screen - how do you get started?

Newbie senior citizen combo - nightmare but I thought I was a little bit ok with computers.
Inherited a rarely used x50 (maybe 50v)
So I recharge the deal - see the Dell screen - get the 'tap the screen' - nothing. do the resets - nothing.
Sometimes I get the 'tap the x to align the screen. Tap - nothing
Help you younger experts - thanks -pete

My first thought is maybe the lock switch on the left hand side is engaged. Have you checked that?

Thanks both - lock switch doesnt seem to be the problem. Resetting doesnt help either. Guess I'll send it away

Before you do that:

Remove any screen protector very carefully.

Then - try to remove all dirt hidden along the edges of the screen.
Use something soft like a visitcard.
There must be a small gap all the way around.

... and report :)

No screen saver?

It turns out this thing has never been used and despite close scrutiny I dont think it has a saver.
Tried the scotch tape thing.
