Aximsiteactivesyncicon pocketPC 2002

Hi,
My x5 has PocketPC 2002 Premium w/ Outlook 2000. My desktop is operating with Windows XP S2 (Outlook 2003). I installed activesync 3.5. I can maintain connection for about 5 seconds then I get the message "synchronization error", then a message "not connected". I am using x5 only for syncing Outlook calendar, tasks, notes and contacts for now. I am pretty green with this stuff so any help getting the desktop and x5 synced would be appreciated.
Thanks

Try using the ActiveSync 3.8, which is the most stable version of AS 3.x:

Microsoft ActiveSync 3.x Desktop Software - HPC Factor

Also try rebooting your PC along with a soft reset of your device, and disabling or reconfiguring firewall.

I tried again with 3.8 and 4.5. Also changed firewall settings and reset and did reboot.. It recognizes the device and connects for a longer period of time than previously however I still get synchronization error. Would upgrading to Windows Mobile 2003 help? Is Outlook 2000 on axim compatible with Outlook 2003 on desktop?
Thanks in advance
Mike

Actually the toughest sync I found was outlook. All other programs sync pretty easily. (Probably has to do with the outlook desktop). When I first started with my axim x5 (I use AOL) once I eliminated the use of outlook syncronization was pretty easy.

Doesn't answer your question but though sorry.:hide:

I appreciate the comment. I am syncing through the cradle and USB and not wireless. There was an Outlook 2000 CD that came with it when I purchased in 2003. I have not used this thing since then because right after I bought it I got a Bberry thru work and was using that for appts, email etc etc. I am no longer working and blew the dust off the x5. It has to be something simple I am missing.

Here's one more thing to try...With your device NOT connected, delete the partnership and try to re-establish it again. You need to delete the existing partnership before doing this or else you will be required to rename your X5.

I tried that a few times and still getting sychronization error. It connects initially...looks for changes and then 5 seconds later I get the error. I can connect as a guest and go through all the folders. The old laptop I used to sync with was using Windows 98...I have never synced this thing with Outlook 2003 so I dont know if that has something to do with it.

This is the part where I ask the stupid question. Is there a program on my desktop that needs to be installed? (Pocket PC2002 or similar).

I believe the Dell CD that came with the x5 contains USB drivers. Did you install those? Also try syncing with a different port.

Take a look at this thread to see if it helps:

I had this same problem with my X51v when I installed Windows live mail and the solution was to open outlook before I put my Axim in the cradle and then it sync'd fine. So I would try opening outlook, then putting your X5 in the cradle and see what happens.

I do not have cd that came with it, just an empty envelope. I installed the USB drivers from the link you posted and tried all of the reccomendations from others as well. Maybe go back to pencil and notepad. I will keep digging into this when I have time (not much) to make sure I am doing everything right. In a sick way, I am on a mission now to figure this out. keep the suggestions coming. Thanks
