File protection

Aloha,

I am totally new to the pda world. I just got an Axim X51v. Is there a way to password protect a file?

I protected the file with a password through MS Word on my PC but when I tried to open the file on my axim I got a message saying it doesn't support password protected files.

There is some information that I would like to protect on my Axim like SS#, phone numbers, contact info, etc. but I can't seem to protect any files.

I would be willing to password protect all my files or my entire Axim if needed but I can't seem to figure it out.

If someone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

Welcome to the site!

A few options:

1. You could try Textmaker, a 3rd party program that replaces the very limited built in WORD.

2. You could password protect your device using the built-in password function or a 3rd party utility.

3. You could use a 3rd party utility to store your passwords (eWallet, codewallet).

Congratulations on your first post, mauiwahine :approve:

Personally I use a dual system (with different passwords !):

1. Cryptainer LE
which creates a cryptofied 'disk' (on my SD-card) which may contain any normal file and the program called

2. Tombo which is a structured file system for text files containing my private, cryptofied informations.

Both are freeware and can be used on my axim AND my pc.

The reason for my choices can be found here
Just click on the links !

Backup is done very easely by just copying one file: the cryptainer file !

Welcome to the Axim/MobilitySite - I'm sure you'll enjoy - :)

Give ewallet a try.

does cryptainer and tombo dedicate some space on my card for storing encrypted data?

Tombo is a program that en/decrypts existing, choosen directories AND text files within.
The directory and file names may be encrypted too.
You may select between different (root)directories located in the memory and on cards.

cryptainer allows you to use fixed OR dynamic storage size.
You may have several 'drive's opened.
All open drives can be closed immediately with just one button - user selected.

Welcome to the AximSite - blissful :)

Actually that isn't entirely true. With eWallet 6.0 you can insert a file into a card and it will get the full benefit of eWallet's encryption. If you give it a shot and have any questions, please just drop us a line.
