I accidentally hit the hard boot and wiped myx30 out so all I have is the dell screen. I tried to open the tutorial but it doesn't work for me. HELP
Do you have a backup to restore to? Also, if you have recently synced, you can sync back your Outlook data. If neither of these are options, then you will unfortunately have to rebuild your device back to its previous state (i.e., reinstall programs, etc.).
None of the instructions on your tutorial seem to pertain to my Axim. First off, I have x30 with Mobile 2003 if that makes a difference.
The GS player download unzips to contain a setup.exe as well as a *arm.cab and a *mips.cab. If I use the setup.exe on the desktop it goes through the routine that says it will install the next time the mobile device syncs, or words to that effect. And on the Active Sync Add/Remove Programs it picks up the GS Player on the list, but it says it has 0 KB.
So that's the first part of the problem. Then comes the plug-in for WMA that's on the GSPlayer site. It extracts to a .cab file but I can't copy it to the device. I've tried several methods for copying it, and none of them work. The option is greyed out.
I guess I can use Windows Media Player, but everyone was raving about GSPlayer and besides, I suspect it plays more types of files that I might need once I get into this more. I want to listen to audiobooks for instance. (I have to read more of the media tutorials...)

Thanks for the help.

The tutorial should be fine for your X30. I just tried installing Gsplayer for my X50v (WM2003SE) and it worked fine. Did you use the zip file called Download (V2.25 English version)? Also, when you tried copying over the CAB files, were you using ActiveSync? You might want to try a card reader.
Not a newbie, but I have never made a post. I am unable to install any new software to my Axim. I try to install to device, SD, or CF. It says installation is complete, but the program is not installed. It says so when you go to add/remove programs, but it is not in any of the program files folders, nor is there a reduction of memory from the installed program... what gives. I usually work out these issues on my own, but this time I am stumped. I un-installed Opera mobile, then tried to reinstall, to see if it would work with programs already installed..... BIG MISTAKE! Unable to reinstall that either.:realmad:
If anyone has a solution, I would be extremely grateful... I'm too old to pull out my hair... It may not grow back.

Could you provide more information about exactly what you tried? I.e., installed cab files or exe files via activesync, etc.
The installations I was referring to were .cab files. 97% of my installs are .cab,I only use .exe via active-sync when I have no other choice.
Ok, so are you just copying the CAB file onto a location in your device, tapping on it to execute it? Which programs have you tried?
Also, since you said your device was new, have you tried a hard reset (hold down power button while doing a soft reset)? Note that this will bring your device back to factory settings (i.e., installed programs gone, data deleted, but the original operating system intact).

Welcome to the site, Oliver!
You need to get a copy of ActiveSync (free from Microsoft) in order to connect your PC to your device. If you want to sync your calendar, email, etc. you will also need Outlook (unfortunately not free, but it was on the Dell CD which you said you don't have).
Basically, install ActiveSync, then connect your device to your PC using the cradle or whatever supplied cable you received. Follow the prompts to establish a partnership. You will now be able to sync you device to your PC, install software, etc.
To connect to wireless internet, you will need to get a CF wifi card (you said you have the x5, right?) You can also connect using ActiveSync as long as your PC has internet access. This guide will help get you going:
I've had my x51v for a while now, but never seemed to get around to updating the ROMs or whatever else you're supposed to update on this. Is there a list around that will tell me what my Axim should be at, in order to be up to date?
Right now, if I go to "Start, Settings, System, About" it lists:
Microsoft Windows Mobile version 5.0
OS 5.1.70 (build 14410.1.1.3)
Under "System Information", it lists:
ROM Version A06 (12190500)
I know I've seen threads on here about A12 ... but where is it, how do I get it and how do I install it? After all that, is it worth it?
I just want to make sure this is as up-to-date as it can be ...

If you really want to be "up to date", you can also try the hacked (but unwarrantied) version of WM6. Note that there is no official support for it, so try at your own risk.
