Identity and synchronisation problem

Hi everybody
I know who I am but for some reason my X50 (win mob 2003) and Dell PC (XP home) do not. - Joking aside, my PDA has performed faultlessly up to now with regard to synchronisation. Last week an error came up: Cannot save synched excel file due to an error in the file. Anway this is not the problem because I had a good backup of the file. However since then Activesync and my address book have gone to pieces with all my contacts remaining unresolved. I think its something to do with Identities because a message keeps coming up: 'You are trying to sync the device under a different identity - change the identity in the address book and try again' or words to that effect. No matter what I do with the address book identity setting on the PC, the unresolved error keeps occuring. (My files sync fine no problem). I have tried changing the identity in the Activesync options menu but for some reason this doesn't work either. I have noticed that when trying to set the Identity from the Activesync menu that the 'Apply' button is grayed out all the time whichever identity is selected.
Any ideas on this would be much appreciated.

Have you changed the ID on your Axim?
I know on the 51v that an idenity for the pda
is set when you fill in the owner info "name"
and that is used in the activesync process
to identify th pda to host.

Try deleting the partnership and re-syncing.
