XP recognizes X51 but cannot connect via ActiveSync

I am a newbie to the world of pda. Need help with my first pda. This is probably covered elsewhere on this site but my search does not turn up anything at this time. I will greatly appreciate it if someone can send me a link.

I downloaded and installed ActiveSync 4.5 on my pc first. After that is installed, I finally connect my X51 via USB. I thought ActiveSync is supposed to launch by itself but it didn't. XP recognizes "new device axim x51" but asks for a driver, which it does not have. I unplugged and plugged the USB several time and x51 only shows up in the device manager everytiime (without a driver, of course). I opened ActiveSync and tried pressing the connect button, but it found nothing...

Is there a driver at all?...I searched the dell website and forum and it seems there is none. What should I do next? Does ROM version has anything to do with it? I have A06.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

turn off firewall, and just for kicks, disable anti virus if you can.

Also, are you logged in as an Admin level user? Some of these as well as other steps can help troubleshoot connectivity issues.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Admin level user?...I am not too sure but I don't think so. I am just using one of my two computers at home. Both of which are wire connected to a router to the internet.

Let me try all the suggestions given by you all and see what happen...still trying to go through the directories to find the firewall...

Coincidentally, my computer crashed and would not boot up to windows. Thus I had to reformat the disk and reinstall everything again. I finally installed ActiveSync and, at last, it connects!!!:approve: I guess there was a corrupted program in my computer before. Now all is good!

One other idea if you have high speed is to uninstall and reinstall active sync. You would then be guided through the connection process again.
