I tried installing Chopper Alley on my Axim. Well, I can't be expected to work all the time, can I? Anyhow, I tried getting rid of it, and it won't delete. I've tried uninstalling with the ppc's OS, deleting it through the file explorer interface, and even browsing the handheld through my computer's explorer to delete it. The machine seems to think that it's still in use. Any ideas?? Suggestions? Anything but a hard reset?

Thanks,
--Rock

Use the Settings>System>Running Programs set to see running programs and then kill it there. Then it should delete. Remember, tapping the X doesn't actually stop it.

Also it may help if you go under ActiveSync and remove it from the PDA/Computer as well.

At this point I hope you have a good backup because I smell a Hard reset coming. I have heard one other fellow who couldn't remove a file no matter what. It took a hard reset.

Does a hard reset restore the registry to stock?

I may have a similar problem with a WMA file. :( I didn't know you have to use Windows Media Player to copy these files to the Axim so I just dragged one with some other files I wanted to load onto my sync folder. Later, it tells me the file is protected so I can't play it (it actually shows only being 2.9 MB when it is really 6 MB... I think it somehow got hung up while writing). I can't delete it using WMP, the Axim, nvigating to the Axim folder through my PC, or the Sync folder. Its only 2.9 mb so I'll leave it alone for now if it means a hard reset.
Thanks for any help.

A hard reset will restore your Axim to factory conditions.
It will be like opening your Axim on the first day you got it.

Have you tried using the switcher bar? It will tell you what is still running and allow you to close it.

You don't. I simply open my "Mobile Device" just like a drive under My Computer and move files into and out of it. Also, unless you really close WMP you can't delete the file you were last lisetening to, because the file is still open. I use the app switcher to close it, then delete the file.

I had the same issue with Chopper Alley. It has a tendency of hanging on and not wanting to go away. Go into File Explorer>AppMgr and delete it there as well. Let us know if that works.

In regards to the WMA file not going away. You are having problems with it because you must have "digital rights" turned on in WMP. There is a place in options to turn it off. Then when you create WMA's you don't have to use WMP to move them to the PPC. Of course it is handy to use WMP to convert and transfer at the same time, but just remove the digital rights coding and the file will work normally(and can be deleted).

Good news...........after a few days and about 3,450 attemted deletes, the machine finally let go of the file. I was uninstalling some other games and made it try getting rid of that one again. So, I have my space back and no real reason why I have it. I guess the key is being more stubborn than the Axim. :D

The problem I have found is that some dll's and other files get stuffed in the windows folder and listed
as system and/or read only and when this happens quess what ??? You cannot delete a system/read only
file from ROM it gives me an error!!! This is after soft reset and from <_< "active stink" explorer. None of the forums I have visited (over 20) don't have any listing on how to get a "protected" file out of rom without a hard reset. My main problem is that I just recently removed gigabar and it left a non-functioning cplmain.cpl (contrast controlpanel applet) in my windows directory and it won't delete and it shows up in my control panel. If anyone has a better way than a hard reset please post a reply.
