Just got an X51v! (skyscape questions too)

Hey everyone!

I just purchased an x51v, but I'm a little overwhelmed by all the stuff that I need to do to fix it up. I have version A01 firmware (is that what it is called?) and I would like to upgrade. The question is, what firmware version should I find and download? I'm sure it's on here somewhere, but there is a lot of information to go over on this site so I appreciate your patience.

Here's another question: Do I have to do a hard reset in order to update the firmware? get this: the reason I bought my PDA was because it had a bunch of Skyscape stuff on there that really sold me. I hope I don't have to delete these programs in order to upgrade, because it seems like I will have a hard time reinstalling them without registration information.

One final question for now: Is the backup function reliable? I want to experiment, but I need to make sure that I will be able to restore everything (including the Skyscape stuff) to the way that it was before I started messing around.

Thanks so much for your time!!

If you update the ROM, you will lose any applications that were installed to it by the former user as well as any of your user files and settings. The pocket pc will be "pristine" just as if you purchased it from the manufacturer with that ROM already installed.

The backup software probably works fine, but most backups that are taken before a ROM update cannot be restored to the pocket pc after the ROM has been updated.

Link to the updated ROM.

Your backup should work after the update. I would recommend that you not use the backup program that came with your Axim. I would recommend Sprite Back-up.

Those instruction will apply going straight from A01 to A12.

Thanks for the information! I saw that thread but thought that it wouldn't apply because I have A01 and not A06.
