X50v Memory slider help - storage/programs

I'm having the wlan unrecognized card in slot 2 problems. Reading the sticky it seems to suggest the problem is not enough memory allocated to programs. I check the memory on my X50v and it is currently set to allocate 27.65MB to storage and 34.10MB to programs. 6.88MB storage is on use, 13.27MB programs in use. If I drag the slider either to the left or right, after a few seconds it will snap back to the middle. Am I missing something basic to get it to stick to what I set it to?

See this article for an explanation about how the memory slider works:

From my pocket to yours....: Q&A: How do I use the memory slider on my Windows Mobile 2003 (or earlier) OS Pocket PC?
