Switching batteries - soft reset

Hi,

I just got an extended battery for my X51v, wich is a refurbished one from Dell support, and I am using the original and the new one.

But, everytime I switch them (turn off the axim, open the door and rapidly switch the batteries/ put the other door) my axim restarts (soft-reset) on turning on (by the led button, doesn't need to use the soft-reset button).

Isn't it supposed to wake up at the same position it was before the switch?

I am using WM6.1.

thanks!

What do you mean by "the same position"? When you change the battery the PPC will soft reset. You can't run the Axim with the battery door open. If you mean that you are loosing date and time, that is a different issue and it has to do with the back up battery inside the unit being toast and in need of replacement.

date and time are fine, I would just like to keep working on the same spot I was before switching the battery...
i thought that i would have the time, let's say 5 minutes, to change the battery without needing to soft-reset the device...

hmm... in fact the ipaq hx 2490 that i had before had another battery meter, that would begin to be consumed when the main one vanishes. Maybe that's just for it.

I believe that by opening the battery door you're activating a switch that kills power to the device regardless of the battery status.

hmmm
allright then...

it's strange that their cradle charges a spare battery, but the device doesn't let you use then continuously...

well, thanks for the enlightening anyway :approve:

IIRC the 51v doesn't have a backup battery built in because it wasn't necessary with WM5's new persistent storage scheme. Therefore it will automatically reboot every time the batt is removed.
