Aximsitesoftwareicon Sdhc Compatibility ???

Hi, I want to buy a SD card for my Axim x51v, but I am confused about compatibility... Does x51v support SDHC cards??? I can buy a Trascend SDHC 4gb, or SDHC 8gb, or Kingston SD 4 gb... which one do you recommend me?? Thanks.

The short answer is "No" the Axim does not support SDHC cards. There is a hack that allows the Axim to work with SDHC cards upto 4 GB only. So if you had an 8 GB SDHC card, you'd only be able to use 4 GB of that space if you had the hack installed on your Axim.

If you want an sd card, you can get 4gb regular (not sdhc) ones from newegg for around $20.

Or if you dont mind, get a cf card. The axim supports up to 32gb without drivers, and they work just as fast/good as sd.

Another option is to get a SDHC to CF adapter:

The information in this thread is NO LONGER CORRECT.

If you're using the correct ROM (personally I'm using WM6.1 LennySh Beta 2.1) then you'll be able to access the full SDHC support. I've got a 16Gb SDHC and it's all present, correct, and behaving itself!

This comment is misleading. You can use SDHC cards if you've upgraded the Axim ROM to one of the hacked WM6.0 ROMS. If you have only updated your Axim with Dell-issued ROM updates, the Axim will not support SDHC cards.

My apologies for not being clearer with my post. Julie is right, if you are using legitimate roms from Dell, then you will not have SDHC support. If, however, you decide you wish to make the step to Windows Mobile 6 (at your own risk), then you'll gain SDHC support and a whole host of other benefits!

You can get the hack here:

If that's the same driver I'm using, then it will allow for SDHC cards of up to 4gb on the official A12 rom and wm5.

There are/were several versions of the driver running around, and although some of them said they could do cards up to 8gb, none of them could do more than 4gb on the axim as of around xmas. (Who knows what they can do now as I haven't looked again since I grabbed the driver at xmas for my 4gb sdhc card)

Hope that helps.

I couldn't tell you about the rom since I don't use it and have never tried it. As for the sdhc driver, I know it works for up to 4gb cause I'm using a 4gb card. After that I couldn't tell you for sure since I have never tried it. I can only pass on what I have read in these forums when I was searching for more info. It's is now May and my last real search for info was December so even that might have changed.

Good luck!

Not up to 8 GB only. There are numerous WM6 Axim users out there with 16 GB cards and I imagine we will see people using even larger cards as the prices on flash memory drop. I personally have used an 8 GB SDHC card in my axim with WM6. :approve:

If all you want is 4 GB in your SD slot then just get a regular 4 GB SD card. They are cheap and available. I still have one from the days before WM6. I think I paid around 25$ for it over a year ago so they must be dirt cheap now. But you also might want to think about WM6 anyway for all of it's other benefits.
