Aximsitex50icon AXIM 51 with Broadband Mobile

Dear Axim Users,

I am planning to purchase Mobile Broadband and is it possible to connect it to Axim 51 and if yes how would I do it?

Would I need wireless card?

Where do I source a cable which will allow me to connect my PDA with USB rather than Carrying crade with me all the time?

Would appreciate your help.

Many thanks

Saqi

What do you mean when you say "Mobile Broadband"?

What part of the world are you in?
Sync cables are available from different places depending on where you are.

You assume that the device to be connected is the x51v / (advanced), if on the other hand the device is the x51 basic then the device would not detect as it does not support wifi connectivity.

Mobile broadband connects to usb enabled laptops as I understand, the x51 does not have an in-built usb point, except possible 3rd party adapters.

I am also very interested in turning my v51x into something that can get onto the 'net. I can get on fine IF there is WiFi or wireless availibility. But for those (so many) times that one is without WiFi capability, how does one: make the Axim capable of this; and what hardware and/or software is required? I do not want to spend all day trying to configure something, so please....an answer that will work. Please send links to products or patches, etc. I am willing to purchase the necessities. Thanks in advance to anyone with the expertise.

The USB dongle won't work directly with the axim as the axim doesn't have USB host support (and no amount of fancy cable wiring will do that).

The easiist way to get internet access is via a mobile phone which will act as a modem and use a bluetooth connection from that to your axim.

If you don't have a data plan added to your cellphone account then this may be rather expensive (£2 per mb in the UK!).

If you're on t-mobile (UK) for example then you can add web'n'walk plus to your account and get 3GB per month for £12.50

I use the X51 bluetooth to connect to my mobile's bluetooth. I setup the PDA modem connection to dial *99# (for Optus in Australia) and I access the internet on the 3G network. You may have to check the number to dial as it differs from country to country. I found my info by googling.
