Hi to all,


i have just bought a used Axim X50 with 520mhz cpu, wifi.... I am new to PDAs.

My problem is that the operating system wich is installed on pda is win mobile 2003 in german. I would like it to convert to english. Where can i get an english win mobile 2003 (torrent, http download,...).
Should i migrate to WM5 , WM6 (is wm6 working on x50)?

I also have a GPS device on bluetooth and i am going to install some GPS programs. Which program do you recomend? Where can i get detailed instructions how to install new operating system on X50?
Is win mobile 2003 still suported by gps programs (is the program the same for wm5 or wm2003)?

For the X50, there is an upgrade cd for Windows Mobile 5 (that's no longer sold by Dell). You can find that upgrade cd on ebay or check the aximsite classifieds section. For the language conversion, there's a thread around here somewhere that tells you how to do it (I will post the link later). Keeping WM2003 SE or WM5 is your choice (there are pros and cons to each), but just keep in mind that support for WM2003 SE is slowly phasing out. No WM6 rom exists yet for X50(mid), but that's where I come in. I am in process of making a WM5 A03 rom for the X50(mid) and X50(low) (I'm almost done), and I will make a WM6(.1?) rom after that.

For the gps, I believe there's a whole forum section here at aximsite that deals with gps. Check there for some tips. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact me via pm or email (email is toa649@myway.com). I will be happy to answer any question you may have (being a X50(mid) owner myself).

What are some pros and cons (win mobile 2003 vs wm5). Which is faster, which is more stable.....What do you recomend?

Please send me link for language conversion. Could i just overwrite wm2003 with wm5.

What is the diference between WM5 A01, WM5 A02, WM5 A03?
Could i install WM5 03 without WM5 01 and WM5 02? Where can i get WM5 (01,02,03) for my Dell Axim X50?

One big con of WM5 on the X50 is the dreaded compaction thread. You can read up on this more at http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/...16/552996.aspx. For WM2003 SE, some users have reported screen flickers (someone correct me if I'm wrong). You cannot install the latest version of WM5 without installing the previous versions first. WM5 A03 for X50(mid) is not out yet, because I'm still working on it (for anyone else, the reason I haven't released a rom is because I keep having problems).

I have read some posts about language change. I have noticed that if language on wm2003 is german i can not upgrade it with english version. What is the best way to get it to english. Can i erase whole wm2003 and install english wm2003 A01? Where can i get english wm2003 A01 for my AximX50?

I've got Wm 2003 se A02 German, can i update it with english A03?

I solved the problem....

I managed to install english A03 update on german A02. I have found a post english to japan language change. I used the hex editor for changing the header of the update file so the german os thinks that he got a german update. I also changed the the name of the file.

But i am still having problems with GPS program Garmin XT, TOMTOM.....
Could you show me some proper torrent link.

What is the max SD card size in mb wich the Dell Axim X50 supports?

How did you manage to upgrade to english? any tricks? or any special files? i'm looking for ways to upgrade to wm 6, even have the files for the x50v as needed but i run into a language problem saying that the language (german) is not supported.
