Stolen PDA & Replacement

Some weeks ago my Dell Axim was stolen from my home, with several other items, I finally finished but my insurance and they are going to replace my PDA. However since Dell no longer makes Axim they are going to replace it with HP hx2495.

After looking at the specs they seam pretty close in design. The one thing I did not understand is why I can not get the newer OS.

Should I be asking this question in the HP section of the Forum? I am just wondering as I it was my Axim that I was used to and now I am having to soon have to use a iPAQ.

See if they will do a cash settlement and then buy whatever you want. Of course you will have to pay the difference yourself but there are a lot of x51v's for sale out there. ecost.com and i think tigerdirect.com had some too. They are refurbs but pretty cheap.

That sounds like a good plan to me. If my x51v were stolen, I would be sorely tempted to go for a kick butt phone device.

I would. The only reason why I haven't is because my x50v is still working and I have to many other items that take priority.

Well they were only going to give $130 for my stolen Axim where as they would replace my unit for that is similar. So considering how much the HP is valued I think I am getting a pretty good deal out of it. What I want to know is how I might be able to upgrade the OS on the PDA. Is this something I might ask in the HP PDA area?

Oh yea thanks for all the help.

So you are looking for WM 6.1 for the Ipaq?
Doesn't look like it is available from HP -- so my guess would be that the situation is similiar to that of the x51v -- your only option for an upgrade is a cooked ROM. Once you get the unit, I would start with HP, and inquire if WM 6 is available for purchase. If it isn't, I would personally hold off on trying a cooked ROM until you are at least beyond the warranty period of the unit.

Well I got my PDA last week and it is nice. What I need know though is how I can get new HP PDA to link up with my Dell Axim bluetooth keeyboard that I stil have. Are they even compatible. I Found the original CD software disk. So what do I do next as my old Stolen Axim already had the software on it.

OH yea thank you all for your best wishes.

Hi,

You mention above of not being able to get the new OS for your model?

Here is a link for a WM6.1 rom for your device.

wm6.1 for hx2000 series - xda-developers
