I just got my Axim today and I'm very excited about using it, but I've come across a potentional problem. My company uses Lotus Notes and I am unsure how to set up the Axim to retrieve my work email. Since my office computer has Outlook on it, so I could set it up do to everything but email. But then I would still use Lotus Notes for email, which would require a lot of switching back and forth and that doesn't seem to be the best solution.

The User's Guide says the Axim can create a modem connection to a network by purchasing a modem card. Would that be a good solution? I really don't know enough to figure out a solution to this problem. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Do you use Lotus Notes for your calendar, contacts and email? If so, you need 3rd party software to sync all those things to your Axim. I also use Lotus Notes and after trying several, I would recommend a product called Cadenza mNotes from Commontime.

http://www.commontime.com

They have a trial version for download for 30 days to evaluate. You have to have a key to make the program work. After 30 days, if you buy the program, they will send you a new key to continue using the program. The program just works with your desktop so no additional software is needed on the Company Servers to get the PIM and email to your Pocket PC.

This software seems to replicate the data much more so than others and it also handles accepting meetings, repeating appointments, and handles e-mail in the inbox with ease. Since most of my email is read and then delete, email on the PDA is very useful.

A Compact Flash modem would allow you to dial into networks or ISPs and use the Pocket PC Internet Explorer. If your Company has a webmail service, then you might try to Browse Notes thru your Internet Explorer when dialed in to the network. However, I haven't found the IE on the Pocket PC capable of handling this in my experience. Our Company expects the users to be using IE 5.0 or better to use the webmail application.

Hope this helps.

I use Lotus Notes at work and successfully Sync it using EasySync Pro 4.0. The advantage of this product is that it is made by IBM/Lotus Notes. I have also successfully setup Enterprise Intellisync 5.1.1 to work with a client's laptop. This product allows for a waider variety of PIM software. Both third party apps work great, but require separate synching from Activesync.
You can choose to have it run automatically, but I prefer to do it manually after Activesync has completed. In any case, get the latest rev of the software to take advantage of the PPC 2002. I have seen many programs that offer Windows CE compatability, my experience has found anything that does not list PPC 2002 is less than reliable. Good Luck!

Thanks for all of the help. Since I have no patience to speak of, I went on and downloaded Cadenza. So far, so good. But frankly, it would have to be rather obvious if something went wrong or else I wouldn't notice. I've got a rather steep learning curve ahead, but this site will help! Thank you for the kind suggestions.

For information, I have found help from Commontime to be very prompt and helpful via e-mail. You need to realize that they are in the UK so their time difference is substantial. Support requests entered in the morning are usually answered by the afternoon but afternoon requests for help might not get answered on the same day.

Cross Post from a few spots now ;)

There are a few Lotus Notes Solutions -

First - EasySync by IBM Lotus - http://www.lotus.com/products/easysyncpro.nsf

Next there is Cadenza mNotes 2.5 - http://www.commontime.com/

Some use Intellisync - http://www.pumatech.com/

Then there is Avantgo's Pylon - http://avantgo.com/products/businesses/wor...ylon/index.html

Pylon comes in two versions, one that is just the conduit and the full version. The conduit allows syncing of all the standard stuff. The full version, allows you to pull down other Notes Databases to your PDA and access that data and sync back.

The final solution is a corporate wide solution - Domino Everyplace - http://www.lotus.com/products/wireless.nsf

With this you can access your Lotus Notes on any Mobile or Wireless device that has connectivity. If you work for a good size company that has plenty of Mobile and Wireless devices, I would push your IT team to look into this.
