Newbie w/used PDA needs WLAN driver, has McAfee issues! Good stuff on this site....
I've had to try and hit the ground running because I really needed this PDA, so I'm trying to learn as I go, short on time. I don't need the Wi-Fi big time yet, but it WILL help down the road, SO: When I first acquired this Axim the WLAN utility was up and running (just not with my home network, I'll get to that.) But now status bar says the driver is not loaded. It's out of warranty, says previous owner, and the driver is not on list at support.dell.com. Anyone know where I can get the driver? I checked here, don't see it.
Next item: we have the (mis)fortune to have comcast cable internet for all other computers. C. provides McAfee VirusScan 9 for free--that's fine, but the software creates a "network" that doesn't even let computers running other McAfee products in. Doesn't matter that your MAC address is in the router. Any ideas on how I can get past them to access my own home wi-fi? I've talked to them, their customer service is not telling me anything new. (I don't really expect anything here--it just doesn't hurt to ask this one, now, does it?) Last (you can see I'm green) I've put on mobipocket. In trying to load a particular ebook, it would not load to my Axim, but to my desktop's "Desktop." Nothing even showed up in ActiveSync. How do I transfer it over? I tried a couple of things, they didn't work. Many thanks for ANY assistance with any of these.

You don't say which Axim you have but I'm guessing it's an X50 since that has the problem reporting that the driver is not loaded. From the WiFi Guide:
Quote:
I'm assuming the McAfee program is on your PC and, if so, it cannot block access to the router. It may include a firewall that prevents devices from seeing other PCs on your home network but that's a different issue. Usually problems connecting to home routers are because the router is set to "G" or "N" only but your PPC can only connect to "B" networks so you need to set it to mixed mode. Other possibilities include having MAC filtering enabled on the router or a level of security not supported by your PPC (WPA, for example). You can find other possible solutions in the WiFi Guide linked from my signature. Sorry, I don't know anything about mobipocket.
