2003 or WM5
Just got this second hand Axim X50 and it currently has ROM A01 2003SE.

I am not familiar with WM2003 or WM5 regarding different functions and issues.

Before I start loading up apps and info, what OS do you recommend as the best to install?

Thanks

I'd go to the Dell website and install the latest version of the Rom (A05?) for your axim. It will still be 2003se but it has some bug fixes in it.

I'd probably avoid wm5 as it struggles on x50 devices.

I know the original WM5 Upgrade had some serious performance issues, but I thought the official WM5 Upgrade thats available from the website was much better?

The X50 Series do not have sufficient ROM to run WM5 properly (The X51 Series have twice as much ROM).

I agree with psionandy and jdigitL, stay with WM 2003 SE but upgrade to the A04 version (or the A05 if there is one).

I second that, in fact i still have a01.

2003se runs great on this device, and if you need a newer os, get a newer device.

The WM5 upgrades created quite a few bricks.

Only the X51v has twice the amount of rom of the X50 series. The WM5 upgrade did brick some pocket pcs, but I think that some people didn't exactly know what they were doing. From my flashing experience, I have flashed from WM2003 SE to WM5 multiple times and never bricked my axim.
