New x50v owner with questions.

Just purchased a brand new x50v today, came with all the oem stuff from the looks of it.

Anyways, I'm wanting to get this thing completely up-to-date and cleaned out of anything it doesn't really need. I don't think I'll be using it for music, videos, games, office stuff...mostly net access/web browsing, checking my email and that's about it. I own a beast of a desktop PC, a brand new laptop, and a blackberry pearl 8130...so the x50v will see limited use.

So far I've downloaded/installed...

-ActiveSync 4.5
-cab installer - FreewarePPC.com - Freeware Pocket PC / Freeware Windows Mobile: CabInstl v1.04
-icbar - Icbar - DID NOT WORK CORRECTLY, HAD TO HARD REBOOT!
-poweroff - Scott's CE Applications
-Remote Control II
-WM2003 A05

I'd like to know of other remote control programs, preferably free...would be nice to use this device as my tv & dish network remote. Are there any other programs I would need, or other programs that would fit my intended use for this device?

I would also like to know the deal behind the operating system. Is WM2003 A05 the newest OS available for this device?

Thanks for reading!

Over 100 views and no replies? :(

I'd also like to know if there's an up-to-date list of games that are compatible with my device. The lists in the software section are several years old, and a lot of those games cost upwards of 25-30 dollars for us x50 owners!

WM5 is also available for your X50v but can't be recommended - there are lots of post/threads here discussing this - make a seach: "WM5 upgrade"
or maybe a look on this WM5 downgrade to WM2003SE links inside will be sufficient

I'm not able to answer all your questions but if you like, you may click on this link to the many excellent articles here and this one here

A little patience and you'll get more answers ...

Welcome to the MobilitySite - I'm sure you'll enjoy - :)

The newest available OS for you x50v is windows mobile 6.1, if you decide to flash it please do your research, so you don't brick your unit. The latest version is A09, though L11 is to be released soon.

Since you aren't going to use your axim for what I generally use it for I can't make many suggestions. Diamond Opera 1938 looks like a good build for a browser, along with flashlite 3.1

If you're wanting to run games Id go with nes/snes/gba/psx/game gear sega emulators theyre out there and free, but it will take work on your part.

Total Commander will help you manage files on your pocket pc so you don't have to use your comp to do it..

Thanks for the replies! I've learned quite a bit about my device by searching the forum over numerous hours, but it seems a lot of the threads I end up reading are about 2-3 years old.

I'm still trying to find an updated list of free gaming software, basically just stuff to keep me entertained when I'm bored at home and tired of playing all my PC games that I beat the day I bought them. Casino games and billiard games would be at the top of my wanted list.

As for the WM5/WM6 stuff...not sure I'm for reading up more about it, the list of mods/tweaks/registry edits are a bit intimidating. I'm very experienced with computers, but completely new to this x50v...or any PDA type of device. I'd love to have an up-to-date OS, so I'll toss the idea around some more...and decide if this device will be used enough for it to be worth the money on the 64mb-to-128mb RAM upgrade.

Also...in regards to the quick start guide that you linked, someone needs to make a note that VBAR shuts off any bluetooth connection you enable if you hit the X in the top/right corner of the screen. Took a while for me to realize it was VBAR and not a bluetooth problem.
