Help needed connecting my 51v to the internet

I have owned my axim for about 3 years and have not been able to connect
to the net. I want to use it at home with my existing wireless service. Is this possible and if so could someone direct me to some "dummy proof" directions?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Assuming your 'existing wireless service' includes a WiFi router, it shouldn't be any problem. Start with the WiFi Guide linked from my signature. If you run into problems, post back.

Thanks ikehiker. Now I am getting a "incorrect network key" message. Do you know where I can find this?

The network key is set on your router. If you are using WEP, you'll need to use the hexadecimal version which will will be exactly 10 or 26 characters long and made up of numbers and the letters a through f. If you are using WPA, this key can also be found in the router settings.

I apologize for my ignorance. I believe I am using WEP. Is this hexadecimal version literally on the router or do I find it somewhere else.
How do I find my router settings?

I was afraid of that! I didnt actually set up my router as it was already
running with my existing cpu set up and set up by someone else a couple of years ago. Is there any other way to retrieve my network key?

You can probably find it in your routers settings page.

To get to this page you need to find your Default Gateway.
Go to Start, Run and type in "cmd" (no quotes) and press enter.
At the black command prompt screen type "ipconfig" (no quotes) and press enter.
You should see a ###.###.#.# after the words Default Gateway.
Copy this address down including periods and type it into the address bar of your browser.
You may get a password prompt. If u have no idea what it is, it is probably set to its default.

Heres a list of default passwords for routers.
Default Password List
Find your router manufacturer and model #. It should be printed on the router somewhere.

Once logged in, you have access to all the info for your router. Pages very by router so i cant tell you where to find your info exactly, but it should be within the pages somewhere.
Feel free to browse around it as long as you dont mess with anything and save it, you wont do any damage.

In the case of an x51v go to settings/connections/ Dell Wlan utility/settings/add new

it should automatically connect to your network. Really simple if you use the Dell utility. The other connections can get quite complicated.

Hope this helps

Thanks to all that offered advice! I am now able to connect to the internet.
Now I am reading thru the FAQs for better browser options as the mobile
versions I have now are terrible.

Thanks again!
