Aximsiteactivesyncicon Reinstalling Activesync... help please ???

I needed to reinstall ActiveSync.

http://www.aximsite.com/boards/images/smilies/help.gif

I have now "two computers" that have associations with the Axim, because the Axim believes the new installation is a new computer.

What happens if I just delete both associations? ActiveSync asks me how to deal with the information on the computer and on the PDA.

What happens if I tell ActiveSync to use both the information on the PDA and the PC? Will I end up with hundreds of Copies of the same items?

Any and all information on the above will be so useful. I have not been able to find out this in the manual, help, or even Microsoft website.

I need to fix this so I can go back to my normal synchronization and be back in business!

Thank you.http://www.aximsite.com/boards/images/smilies/help.gif

First, trying to sync with two computers is not going to work. You need to pick one & stick with it. You still can install applications & explore your device from the other computer.

You can simply delete the partnership on your device. Programs--->Activesync--->Menu--->Options. This will delete all your contacts, email, tasks, appointments, & notes. You will want to back those up.

You shouldn't end up with duplicate entries if you tell activesync to combine the information from both your device & computer.

You can sync to two different computers. Just delete the existing partnerships with both computers and set them up again from scratch. When you sync for the first time, ActiveSync will recognize that there is data on both devices and prompt you to choose between 3 options: 1) Combine the data; 2) Replace the data on the pocket pc with the data from the computer; 3) Do nothing.

If you choose the 1st option and you have some of the same data on both the pocket pc and the computer, this data will be duplicated in both places.

If you choose the 2nd option and you have unique data on the pocket pc (that is not on the computer), you will lose that data.

Probably your best bet is to spend some time inputting the unique data that is currently on your pocket pc to your computer, then you won't risk losing any data when you sync and choose the 2nd option. Though you could choose the 1st option and then plan to spend time deleting duplicate data. I guess it really boils down to which choice will require the most effort from you.

Of course, it is always a good idea to backup your pocket pc before you sync for the first time. Then if things don't go as expected, you can restore from the backup and you will not have lost any data.

Replying to this thread since your post pretty much answers my questions about syncing my x51v to two computers. I'm planning on getting a netbook in the near future (most likely the Eee 1000HE). I was wondering what would happen if I installed AS 4.1 (same version on my home pc) and then synced my x51v to the netbook with Office 2003 installed (same version on my home pc). Wouldn't I then have my netbook matching my home pc as far as all contacts, appointments, tasks, etc. since it would be a fresh sync?

I used otbe able to link my Axim X51V with both my office PC and my home PC. I would just cradle (or later use Bluetooth) and the most recent note or task would replace the older one. This was just how I would expect it to work, with home PC, PDA and office PC all synchronised with little manual input.

I now cannot do this (see my query this web site /boards/activesync/235698-active-sync-two-pcs-used-ok.html) and am trying to get back to that stage. Sorry not permitted to post URL.
