Active Sync problems

Hello all.
As many on here i am having active sync problems.
I have a 2nd hand, Axim X51v in good condition. With a cradle and all peripherals.

I have outlook 2003 on my pc.
Am retreiving my emails via googlemail(which connects with outlook)

I uploaded active sync 4.1 from the cd included and then tried to sync to my outlook(contacts and calender)

During sync an error code came up
error code 85010014.

and sync did not occur.

I searched the web for fixes which suggested try active sync 4.2 which should fix this.
I tried this and also tried version 4.5 with the same error message coming up.

Would appreciate any help given.

Many thanks

Kiran

I'll ask the stupid questionfirst; are you running XP or Vista?

Did you install ActiveSync before attaching the cradle?

Some other stuff to think about:
  • Is there any damage to the pins on the cradle or the Axim?
  • Are you using a main USB (i.e. not via a hub) and have you tried an alternative?
  • Does your firewall allow bi-directional communication with the device?
  • Have you tried a soft reset?
  • Have you tried a hard reset (backing up first,of course!)
  • Have you checked for Windows updates?
  • Have you checked for BIOS updates?

First of all thanks for your prompt responses.
I have fixed it now. However thought my fix might help the knowledge base on this forum.
To answer the questions first:

1. im running XP

2. I Did install ActiveSync before attaching the cradle on a number of occasions

Some other stuff to think about:
3.Is there any damage to the pins on the cradle or the Axim?
Not even 1 bit it was my wifes before me and she hated it.

4. Does your firewall allow bi-directional communication with the device?
Yes i did have to configure this.

5.Have you tried a soft reset?
about 20 times

6.Have you tried a hard reset (backing up first,of course!)
about 10 times, no need to back up as nothing on it yet

Have you checked for Windows updates?
Funny you say that when i got home (after allowing active sync through my firewall) the follwing day a host of new outlook updates installed. Maybe this fixed it

This morning i tried it again using a different usb socket (on the back of my tower)
and hey presto i now have sync.
Can finally enjoy the device.
Thank you for all your help guys.

Kind regards
a Vikings fan from london
