I just tried to post a message and it says a moderator must approve it. What's going on? It's not done that on any of my previous posts -- I'm a registered member and logged in.
I think there are some restrictions for new posters on the site. It is a measure the moderators use to help prevent spam and such. Keep posting and asking questions--it will all work. The moderators and people here are great.
Glad to hear some things are working out. There's a bit of a learning curve with the Axim, and it is all well worth the effort.

In the forums section, look for the wi-fi talk section under hardware accessories. You'll see ikehiker's guides and faq posts as stickies at the top. If those posts don't resolved the issue you have, post your question and someone will help.
Since my post was delayed there were a couple after it, people may not realize an earlier post back up there appeared later, so I'm reposting it.
Thanks.
I am trying to figure out how to connect to a remote Wi-Fi like Panera Bread.
In setting up the home system he discusses acquiring the network with the X50. I used this page wifi.aximsite.com/axim-03se dot html (Apparently, if I include links my posts are delayed, so I'm doing the link like this. The clickable link is in my original post above) since my unit has WM03SE. He says,
Quote:
Once activated and within range of a wireless network, the PPC will ask you for the type of connection (Figure WM03SE-3). Typically, you should select Work for a home network, then tap Connect and you will be automatically connected.
Nothing like this happens for me. None of the screens in figures WM03SE-3 through 5 appear.
The troubleshooting stuff seems to be for no signal. I have signal and 3-5 wireless networks are listed in Sites in Dell WLAN. My own is listed as having a strong signal. I can tap any of them on the list and they highlight but this seems to do nothing else.
If I can't get the wi-fi working it is one of the two primary reasons I bought this device.
You're right about the links delaying your posts; I think your particular question about the wi-fi is getting lost in the tangle here. The site discourages cross posting, but in this case you might take the substance of your question about wi-fi and post it in a thread in that section of the forums.
You say you acquired this from a friend, you may want to consider doing a hard reset.
This will take it back to factory settings, like new out of the box.
This might be helpful because it removes any junk or errors that the previous owner may have added to the system.
It will wipe out any extra software that has been installed.
Do you know how to do a Soft Reset, push the tip pf the stylus into the little hole in the back.
This is just like rebooting a PC, and can fix a myriad of problems, you don't lose any data or programs doing this, it just shuts everything down and starts it fresh.
I would try a soft reset if you haven't already.
Wifi will not connect while it is connected to ActiveSync.
Make sure you have turned the Wifi on.
Find your Home network, Tap and Hold and you should get a pop up menu, connect.

I did a hard reset when I first go it (two days ago) before I added a program and data files.

I did a soft reset yesterday because I read somewhere it could have something to do with this Wi-Fi problem.

That's good to know that but I've been trying off the cradle.

There's not doubt about that, I push the button on the side of the unit and see it turn it off and on. Also, I'm getting a list of networks, and a full set of bars shows on the bottom right of the Today screen.

When I tap and hold my home network I get a circle of dots, nothing else.
If you did a hard reset only 2 days ago it can't hurt to do another one.
It sounds very strange that you aren't getting any menus when you tap and hold.
What sort of security settings do you have on your home network.
WEP, WAP etc or is it unsecured?
Is it set to Mixed mode, ie; b and g, Axims won't connect to just G
Also there can be problems connecting to WAP.
I would Hard reset, turn off any security on your router and try to connect before you install any other software.

Mixed, WAP

That's not good to hear, but it won't even try to connect to either of the other two networks on the list that are unsecured and will connect to my laptop.
I did a hard reset. The screens that had never come up came up twice. I didn't try to connect to my network because it requires a password I don't remember. I tried one of the other (neighbor's) networks that is unprotected, it asked for a password and I just clicked past that screen. It did not connect. I turned off the wifi and back on, again the connection screens came up. I tried another neighbors network, still didn't connect. After that I will no longer bring up the screens when I start the wifi -- it is behaving like it did before.
One thing I notice that I don't remember it doing before (but I may have just not noticed), on the Site screen in WLAN, in the top box named Status it keeps switching between "connecting to network" and "scanning network" about every 3-4 seconds. This is the screen that lists all of the networks within range.
By clicking past the Password screen you have set the settings for that network and the Ax will remember them.
But you have set it with the wrong password, so it won't connect.
You must get out of range of the networks and tap and hold a select remove settings.
Then try again, once you know what the password is.
The neighbours networks may be set to G which means the Ax will see them but not connect even if they are unsecured or you have the correct password.

That's good to know, but the real problem is, after popping up the list of networks twice it has again quit popping them up and the behavior has returned to what it was before the reset.
As I mentioned in your other thread, the 'popups' only occur once for each network. Once you either chose it or tell it to ignore, they will appear in the list of available networks but the popup will not reappear (until you remove them as Box describes above).
