Aximsitex50icon Turning X50 into a cell phone?

I have read a couple of posts datd back in '04-05 about turnng a X50 into a cell phone. I have a X50 but wanted to switch to a cell phone for some time now, but I have no clue how to go about it. I purchased it back in '04 and have keep it up pretty good, just want to stop carrying around multiple devices(cell, PDA, MP3....) and love my unit to function as one stop shop. Can anyone in 2 year old language tell me if this is possible and how.

It is possible, but its not practical and its a pain in my opinion.

The cell phone scene has changed since those 04-05 posts were written. Back then there were few phones that ran wm, most were smartphones.

Now, there are phones that run wm everywhere. You can get a new phone, drastically reduced in price if purchased with a plan, and still have the familiar windows mobile os that your x50 runs. In fact, youll get a newer, better version.

From what i can remember when these discussions came up in the past is, the axims battery isnt like a cellphones and therefore life is a lot less due to always having to be on standby for a call.
Its an awkward device for a phone the way the mic and speaker are opposite of the screen.

Thats my opinion. I think the axim x50 is a great pda, but if i ever wanted to get a good phone, id get one with windows mobile already on it and retire my x50.

I agree with Spunker. The big problem is the battery. Even the 3600 mah battery will only last about 5 - 6 hours. The x50 was never designed to be a cell phone. :)

Yeah, spunker is right.. a 20 dollar cellphone will make/receive calls better than any axim with a cf card.
