Active Sync and Axim X50v

Hello everybody,

I just bought a second hand Axim X50v and I am totally newbie on PDA so it's very difficult for me. However I am eager to learn how to use it correctly.

My purpose is to install Acrobat Reader which I really need but I don't know how to resolve my problem.

I read on this forum that I had to install Activ Sync. I installed the version 4.2 on the microsoft website but when I tried to syncronize it, in the first moments I could but when I tried just to go to the part to install programs on Activ Sync it told me that it wasn't the good version

I installed the 4.5 but it didn't want too so I am a little bit lost.

Perhaps it's linked to my version of Outlook which is the 2007

Please help me . I really need your advices to learn how make it work.

I thank you very much.

Have a very good week end too.

Welcome to the site!

If you are running XP or lower, ActiveSync should be just fine. If you are running Vista, you will need the Windows Mobile Device Center instead:

Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 (WMDC) | Download | Windows Vista

And BTW, if you are going to install Adobe - Reader: Adobe Reader for Pocket PC, there is a hack to display VGA:

how to force HI_RES_AWARE (true vga) in Windows Mobile 5.0 ^^

Thank you very much for your so quick answer. i am running Xp. I have installed the 4.5 version of ActiveSync but I still have the problem. I mean I can get connected but it's impossible to syncronize my PDA with the laptop. I turned off Kasperky 2009 but i still the same problem. When I analyze the problem with ActiveSync it tells me that it's impossible to establish the connection between my PC and the PDA (: .What's more I just have a cable USB to charge it and I don't understand how to charge it. I installed activesynctoggle but I don't see any improvement.

Thank you so much for your help

What happens when you try to sync? Does it start but not get completed? Do you get an error message? Have you tried deleting your existing partnership(s) and then trying again? To do so, go to File - Delete Partnership when you are NOT connected. Also, make sure to turn off Windows firewall, and plug the sync cable directly into the USB port and not through a USB hub. As well, try rebooting PC, and soft resetting device.

The USB cable charges the device using power from the USB port. The X50v is a very power hungry device, so you should have the device switched off when charging. Also avoid letting your device drain too much since the USB port may not be able to supply enough power to charge it back up. I'd recommend investing in an AC adapter to avoid these problems.

Sorry for answering you later and thank you so much for your concern about me. When I try to sync i have the PDA which recognizes the cable and authorize the connection without any sync. In the software, in my pc, it's the same I have the green thing. But in the part Sync, in the software, I can't push on it. I mean there is nothing even if I click on the sync key on the PDA nothing happens. i don't have message of error, I have nothing. When I explore the folder in relation with the pda in the option of Activesync, almost nothing appears. Sometime some folders appears but I can't enter in them or even paste something in the folders.
About the partnership, I am not able to create any partnership. Each time when I plug my usb cable it asks me if i want to create one new. Perhaps the pda is dead inside I don't know. I don't have BTW installed do you think that it could be coming from that even if it's for PDF acrobat reader?
I am sorry to ask you so much. I am just frustrated that it works on people and for me i have nothing.

Thank you again

It kind of sounds like you have a Guest partnership. On your PC when you device is not connected, click on File - Delete Partnerships. Is there anything to delete? Make sure you delete everything possible. Then try resyncing. Make sure you follow the prompts to create a partnership.

If that doesn't work, start from scratch. Uninstall then reinstall Activesync. Reboot your PC and soft reset your device. Disable all firewalls/antivirus, etc. Then connect your device directly to your PC. Wait for the prompts to establish partnership. If there are no prompts, try a different port. A last resort may involve hard resetting your device; however, this would delete all your data and remove all user-installed programs. Make sure you backup first.

P. S. Don't give up! You're not the only one who's ever had ActiveSync woes!

thats for sure. i was baffled for weeks by activesync partially working. it was the crummy cheap cradle/usb cord. amazon has new cheap cradles, cords etc, problem solved. also i hope you ran your axim cd to uninstall and then install activesyn again.
by the way, i solved my problem while waiting for new cable by syncing by infrared, which is pretty cool, tho slow. i have bt problems too, my axim offers only com 7 and 8 while my bt program wont use those two???
I agree with above, charge your unit from the wall, not the usb, youll overheat it and your computer, also the cradle power line goes to wall, includes adapter. recommend you look at amazon, there are many combinations possible there, cheap.
