I apologize if these questions have been answered before.
I am just about to order an Axim X5 (400). Before I do, I have a couple of things I need cleared up:
1) Is that estimated shipping date Dell is providing fairly accurate? Wow, I can't wait 3 weeks for this thing. I'll go insane.
2) I'm working with a limited budget, so I'm considering purchasing SD memory and a CF WiFi card from another source if I can find them cheaper. Any thoughts or suggestions on this? I don't want to purchase an incompatible card.
3) I'm a Palm user, so bear with me....If I have cable internet and a Linksys WiFi router, I can check my email and browse the web with the Axim using a CF WiFi card, right? What happens when you browse the web on such a small screen? Does it automatically format it, like AvantGo does, so you don't have to scroll right and down constantly? Or am I way off - maybe you can only browse sites that are specifically formatted for Pocket IE??
4) Another Dell question: Does anyone know what Dell would do if a price drop or rebate offer happens prior to my unit being shipped? Are they cool about giving you the drop/rebate?
5) And finally, in order to save $20, I plan on downgrading from standard cradle to the travel USB cable. Aside from the ability to charge backup batteries, is there any other advantage to the standard cradle? I mean, does anyone know if the standard one recharges unit faster?

1. Dell's estimates are generally conservative, so they don't have trouble meeting it. Most of us got them early. Of course, ymmv....
2. Any SD or CF card should be compatible. Some folks have had problems with SanDisk SD cards, and some have had problems with Linksys WiFi cards. Search here for the posts and threads.
3. You can surf with WiFi and your setup. Some sites are PDA friendly, some are not. You have to scroll the unfriendly ones. I don't do that so someone who does should chime in here.
4. Dell doesn't automatically apply new discounts to already ordered stuff. To get the discount, you would have to cancel your previous order and reorder all over. That delays your ship date, of course, because it's now a new order. It's sort of fair...you get the discount, but have to wait with the rest of those who ordered with that discount.
5. The Axim charges in the cradle from the same power supply as you will get with the cable. The charging times should be the same.

3-weeks is nothing. iPaq users said some waited for 4 months for their ipaq. I totally see your point, though. I wasn't quite normal after 2 1/2 weeks wait for my Axim which accounted for the little happy dance I performed when I finally retreived my Axim from UPS.

Oh well, who needs sanity when you have an Axim anyway :D .

Thanks for the input. I ordered the 400, barebones (no SD or CF). I'll search for cheaper memory and save for a CF WiFi card.
